Ha!!! I've sat back and watched for a while now, and you guys (after 5 pages of this thread) are still missing my point! Get over it! It's ten freakin' dollars. Stop thinking about how you think Paradox has wronged you. They're trying to make money (like most people try to do) and despite your desire for :)free:) stuff, it's not going to happen. So you can grouch if you want to but you're wasting your time. Either buy it and be happy or don't and play four fifths of a game. Just don't come here and complain about how they've wronged you. Computer games are not a necessity, it's a luxury. The price of this luxury (an extremely unnecessary one at that) is something that should (and is) up to Paradox. So let's not hold that against them. Buy it or don't. Although I do encourage it if you want more out of the game.

I would rather say a desire for a game free of the kind of bugs that make it unpleasant to play. I would rather say a wish to get the fixes at least for the major bugs for free with or without excuses. :)

I think we understand your point pretty clearly. That's why, back in page 1, I said it was a very cynical point.
Essentially you are saying that, as a for-profit enterprise, Paradox is justified to make money any way they see fit. If we are in any way unsatisfied with what we bought, it's to no one's fault but our own. Any post-release support should be considered acts of pure charity. In short, we as the consumers should just stop complaining and shut up, or buy anything they choose to throw our way.
If that's what you're saying, I don't agree with you. And judging from the discussion in this thread, nobody else does. But of course nobody is telling you to shut up because they don't agree with you, either.

God, how I hated that phrase when my daughter first used it; now I think it's entirely appropriate, albeit not cool.

I've just loaded down Panzer General 2 for zero dollars and it looks easily worth 10 dollars euros or whatever currency convergence is happening. So I've got Rome VV on one laptop for 10 euro and Panzer General 2 on another next to it for free so I'm feeling quits.

Now if only the Romans had tanks...............

While I still firmly believe that the purchase of Vae Victis (a luxury) is the answer to many problems, regardless of the ten dollars needed, this is an open forum and I believe I should not have stated my previous post in the manner it was posted. I believe all that I said in that post to be truth but the ones opposed to the purchase are still aloud to gripe and complain, and I shouldn't try to take that away from you. Like I said, this is an open forum.

I don't see the point of the "this is a luxury" statement. I'm not forced to buy a luxury, but if I buy it (with money that doesn't grow on trees), I expect to get a finished product.

Just as I don't see anybody buying a yatch (also a luxury) with half the engine, and paying extra money later for the missing pieces. Should he shut up because the yatch is a luxury? Are luxury items eligible for being sold incomplete or unfinished, just because they're luxuries? I try to delve into that reasoning, to no avail. Please explain.

Whatever,..... again. Didn't understand a word of that.

Maybe I'm suffering from post budget blues (UK government admitting it's bust today for you non-UK forum members).

But maybe I'm losing the will to live.

How did the Romans fight a hundred years war against the Partians? Had boredom not been invented? Why bother? didn't the Partians get fed up with the Afghans?

And what actually happened in the dull bits between the big battles? Did soldiers just wander round stabbing people?

Judging by today's birthday list on the Paradox forum basically nobody here was alive the last time it got nasty in Europe 70 years ago so even that is all ancient history to you too. Might as well have been 700 or 7000 years ago.

YES luxury items are often incomplete.
Brand new cars break down, mp3 players come with the cheapest crappiest headphones, U2's latest album is missing good songs for the entire second half. Life can be cruel and unfair at times but you pay your money, you take your chances.
YES paradox is being more than a little cheeky making a sub par game then charging the scandalous price of ten whole pounds for the expansion to put it right, but they have also made quite a few brilliant ones and I for one will continue to buy their games and if necessary I will pay for the expansions too. The alternative is a much more expensive game that will be oh so polished and flashy and boring as hell and over within two days.

I am with the nay-sayers on this one. Vanilla Rome should have been patched extensively before Vae Victis came out. As it stands, people have to pay dollars/pounds/euros for a glorified patch. A shame realy.

That's the way of things now I'm afraid. Take it or leave it.

The point of my "luxury" statement is that you don't need a game to live and a yatch doesn't cost ten dollars. Also, EUR is playable without VV. VV solves many problems and makes the game more enjoyable. EUR came complete with everything you need to play. So, if you want to use a yatch to compare, I could say that it would be like buying a yatch, then adding a hammock and some more outdoor furniture on the deck (VV). That stuff costs money. You bought a yatch, they don't send :)free:) stuff to come with it. That just doesn't make sense.

The thread is starting to get even more ridiculous then before. I mean, since WHEN should a luxury item, just because its not essencial for our survival, to be sold incomplete?

Brand new cars break down, mp3 players come with the cheapest crappiest headphones, U2's latest album is missing good songs for the entire second half. Life can be cruel and unfair at times but you pay your money, you take your chances.

That is why THESE things come with warranties. If it DOESNT work, you can protest, and get a brand new product.

And while stuff like mp3 players might come with the cheapest crappiest headphones, they WORK, if they do NOT, as i said, there is a warranty on these products for something.

Seriously, you little paradoxian fan boys should get over with it and admit that the game needs to be fixed because it DOES need to be fixed, and no damn game should be released like this.

The game refuses to initialize - and when it does initialize in some other computer of mine, it often ends up with visual basic (or visual studio, cant remember) errors, and it ALWAYS refuses to exit (forcing me to use CTRL+ALT+DEL all the times).

In years of gaming, i cant remember seeing such a buggy product.

EDITED: I have seen :)free:) stuff better then this.

What I don't get is all the people telling us not to complain. Going with OP's purely utilitarian view, it should be to all customers' benefit that some customers are complaining. It's not as if we're making some kind of outrageous demands. Our complaints can in no way diminish anyone's gaming experience.

Say what you want about patches being "free", but in this day and age post-release updates are expected, they are not some kind of extra bonus. It's the only reason why we tolerate buggy gold releases. You'll never find any developer that dares to announce a no-patch policy upon release; nor will you find any company that dares to charge for patches -- not without calling them expansions, that is.

The only party that benefits from the "take it or leave it" approach is a company that is set out to rip off their customers, and I believe (hope) that Paradox isn't one of them. All the consumer rights we have nowadays came directly as the result of some whiny consumers who decided not to take it or leave it.

You pay for expansions... not patches...

I don't care at all if you complain, but my EUR worked fine, and my VV works fine (patched). That's probably a personal problem that you're having with you're computer, uly. May I refer you to the Tech Support forum? Tech Support. If that doesn't help then try patching your game. Anyways, EUR is a game that you payed money for. They gave you free patches (as normal). VV is an expansion. It adds a new edge to the game, and you people want it free. uly, what you're talking about is having to pay for bug fixes... Paradox does not make you pay for bug fixes. Did they not give you a patch for VV? The only reason a new one has not been released is because of HOI3. I guarantee you that the next patch released for VV will be free. If a new expansion was released then we would pay the ten dollars, because it would add new features (as did VV), and unlike most people I would be fine with that. Maybe you're eager to receive a new patch? I don't know. But just stay calm and a new patch for VV or even possibly EUR might be released, and I guarantee that they will not cost you a dime.
