Some of the messages you get appear in the corner, and not as pop ups (depending on your message settings). For example trade agreement and peace offers.

Going well. Though how long before you grow too tired of the constant warring? Also how bad are the rebellions. I can cope with the wars. I can cope with the rebels. but both at the same time everywhere generally gets too tedious.
