I my current game (now Byz. Emperor) all of my courtiers appear to share the same heir for some reason. (As a side note, my court is huge, over 200. The display stacks all of the courtiers on top of each other on the Emperor's screen.)

You have Elective Law and in Elective Law all courtiers will be inherited by the guy with highest martial in your court. Your emperor would be too, if you wouldn't have any vassals.

No, he doesn't have the highest martial. He has a martial of 14. The next in line is a 5 year old with a martial of 12, followed by a 3 year old with a martial of 10 and then by my marshal who has a martial rating of 19! So elective law may explain why all courtiers have the same heir - but the ranking makes no sense. (My marshall has more prestige and money and the same amount of piety as everyone ahead of him.) There is also one man with a martial of 15 who is not even on the list of heirs.

As an aside, to put it bluntly, courtiers should inherit some other way - the "heir of the court" guy now has ~15-20 different claims that have fallen to him. Why court members cannot by default have their cash and claims go to their eldest son is something I find strange.

Well, the "Strongest" determination is odd, I just have noticed that martial has effect on it and I have never had so many courtiers as you using Elective Law.

Change your inheritance law to Salic Primogeniture and everyone has their own eldest son inherit. The game is working correctly for your law and if you don't like it, you should change the law.

Other stats have an effect in elective law too, I've noticed. High diplomacy in particular seems to help.

As of may 24, 1153 the following are the heirs of the court (not the emperor):

Code:
                             M/D/I/S Pres/Piety/Gold
Alexios Rurikovich 11/9/5/7 5/ 0/7297
Konstantinos of Zyraine 11/7/4/9 15/ 0/0
Yaropolk Rurikovich 18/8/8/2 140/ 0/8750 (marshal)
Michael Chouros 14/8/7/0 65/ 0/1655
Stanislav Rurikovich 12/5/6/8 15/ 0/0
Iaropolk Rurikovich 7/7/8/7 55/ 0/0
Ladislav of Zyraine 8/6/7/7 50/ 0/0
Momtchil of Zyraine 13/4/8/6 65/ 0/0
Adrianos of Zyraine 10/7/7/6 0/10/0
Isaakios Chouros 4/0/0/0 65/ 0/0

Conspicuously not on list:

Vladimir Rurikovich 15/8/8/8 65/ 0/1058
Iaroslav Rurikovich 14/9/7/7 65/ 0/1159
Anten Rurikovich 13/7/8/7 15/ 0/0

Perhaps the size of my court (175 adults) is a problem - or perhaps there is something else going on in the succession selection code? (I mean, WTF is Isaakios doing there?)

As to using elective law for my court - I just find it strange that one depressed 13 yr. old is heir to 174 other people.
