All of a sudden game has become laggy

I have had this game for a while now and it has never given lag trouble but lately it has become very laggy. The strange thing is sometimes about 1/4 times I try to play it becomes perfectly lag free like it used to be. It can't be my computer because it is very powerful(amd64 3500+) and it also does this in battle scenarios so it cant be grand campaign lag. I hope you guys know what is wrong, thanks in advance.

To say it cannot be your computer, is a little crazy, since obviously the vast majority play without problems, including you until recently.

So you used able to play the game with no problems, then recently you started to experiance intermitent lag problem, occuring about 3/4 of the times you play the game.

So I would ask you what has changed in your system, between when you could play with out troubles and now when you are experiancing this lag problem.
It sounds to me like you installed something or updated something, or started to use something more. This "something" is leaving lots of back ground process running.

The only thing I could think of was that I installeded the starfire historical mod shortly before the lag started. I Uninsttaled the mod and uninstalled the game totally. I reinstalled but it still seems to lag, all I have on it is patch 1.2 and the Stony road graphics pack but neither of those used to cause me trouble. I can't really think of anything I have changed as far as other non Hoi2 programs.
