Jains and Buddhists are supposed to designate heir from their "progeny" according to the tooltip.
But "designate heir" only works on the ruler's children, and isn't available on grandchildren (the button is unavailable). This is an obvious conflict with the tooltip. The word "progeny" doesn't mean just mean "children." it means "child or descendant." (Black's Law Dictionary, 8th Edition). My grandchildren are my descendants, and thus my progeny, so I should be able to designate an heir from among them. But as I said, the button is disabled on grandchildren.
This leads to weird situations:
1. (any gender law) - My only child has 3 sons , then my child predeceases me. I can't designate my heir from my 3 grandsons, even though they are the only valid heirs. The game falls back on succession law (primo, ultimo, etc).
2. (Agnatic-Cognatic) - I have 3 daughters. I can designate my heir from any of those three. Then one daughter has a son. My grandson is now the only valid heir and it overrides my designation of daughter. If my other daughters have children, then the game falls back on my succession law (primo, ultimo, etc) to determine which grandson has priority.
