Even though it's show. Can't it be a little bit more accurate? I know it's a game, but we have all this awesome types of stars so why not be also so detailed when it comes about the planetary orbits?

IIRC they said it was for playability. If we had planets with tilted orbits and intersecting elliptical orbits that could get pretty messy. The planet:star size ratios / orbital distances are also 'inaccurate' for this purpose, it seems.

Please just continue as it was. We will soon enough be able to play "optimally", purge everyone, and take over the galaxy as fast as possible ourselves. I for one enjoy the more fun, relaxing and roleplaying approach you do.

If I watch someone else playing a game, I want to be entertained. I rather do the perfect optimization stuff myself.

Another Question: When watching the stream i noticed that all the planets had circular orbits around the star, while the moons had circluar around their planets. I know that most of the planets have elipitical orbits and some are even tiltet (Example the dwarf planet pluto).

Will this also be in the game or is it at least moddable?

In most textbooks/images the eccentricity and inclination of orbits is exaggerated for educational purposes, as most these values for planets within our own solar system are fairly small. (excuse the nerd-out on planetary science below)

With regards to eccentricity, most planets* in most solar-system-like systems* have an eccentricity that is in the 0.03 or less bracket, which is so small it's essentially imperceivable to the human eye, especially when translating this onto a screen with pixels.

Orbital inclination of planets with regards to the sun is a little more variable than eccentricity, but still generally does not exceed a few degrees for essentially the same reasons as eccentricity (that is, a bunch of stochastic laws derived from n-body gravity simulations).

That being said, the galaxy is a big place, and the amount of systems not at all like our own solar system are....many. Those systems often have extreme inclinations and/or eccentricity and/or near-obscene size/orbital radius. Sadly, most of those systems are uninhabitable and/or unstable for exactly those reasons.

*: dwarf planets and asteroids usually care not for most of the reasons why this is the case because their low mass means they're far more susceptible to perturbations, also simulations for them are hard because the computing power needed to simulating any reasonable number of asteroids is bonkers, which makes a more comprehensive understanding of the why dwarf planets tilt about so much not quite as advanced as it is for planets.
**:typing form memory it's more like the 60-70% majority of planets in like 50-60% of systems overall, but this is a slanted distribution, low eccentricity and inclination is much more common in systems with a solar-system-like configuration - but there are some very very strange system configurations both in simulations and observations so far)

Then just tell us why you are making the decisions you are making. That is what I meant in my post. You described a lot of what is happening in the game, but you didn't often explain why you are making certain decisions.
I mean, maybe doing a difficult research before an easy one is a very good choice, but you didn't really say anything about that choice. You often did talk about roleplaying reasons for some choices, but, again, you should also explain why you are making decisions from a gameplay point. That is how the viewers will learn about the game.

Bro, it's not a lets play. It's the dev's just doing something for the community. I get your point, I find watching sub optimal play frustrating too, but optimal play isn't the point.

In the setup screen, there were options to change sex, clothes hair etc. Are there different male or female portraits for the various races?
I'm only asking because I could definitely see dimorphism play a major role in insect societies for example, with a different, or more elaborate "queen" model in play.

Be patient. This is an 8 week process and you will need to watch and learn over time why certain choices are made, what worked and what did not.

Just sit back, relax and enjoy the process up to launch. It's a bit like a wedding night, you don't want to fire off all your ammunition in the first few minutes. Slow and steady build-up with an explosive Blorg finish.

Quill's video was recorded in January, so yes many many builds ago. Lots of time for them to be balancing the game. More recently in the PCGamer Weekend video there was an acknowledged fleet strength reporting bug. So we'll probably continue to see numbers drift going forward for a variety of reasons.

I don't think so. I'm not aware of any more Stellaris content coming out until next week's stream. I'm considering short term cryostasis. Which is basically going and throwing myself in a snowbank for a few days.
