Alexios Doukas Mourtzouphlos ?

Hello! I figured I'd make a (short) thread regarding this lovely and odd character in the CK2 Universe. Who also happens to have only been an emperor for three months ( give or take )

It is clearly stated in lore that he is a part of the Doukas Family, and that Mourtzouphlos was if I am not mistaken his nickname, not the nickname of his family. So I was wondering, is this an oversight by the one who wrote the byzantine history or is it intended for him to have his own dynasty, while he's supposedly of the Doukas family which in turn is a part of the Angelos Dynasty ( or something along those lines )

This certainly made me curious, because technically the Doukas family is not dead by this point in time.

Alexios direct ancestors are unknown. Its better to create a new dynasty than have him be a floating character in the Doukas dynasty.

They may be unknown yes, but it is stated that he is of the Doukas family, surely all the people in the Doukas Dynasty isn't historical?

Actually, and I think you should already know this, the Doukas family lived on in the form of a second name. He could literally be less Doukas than the Komnenous. Maybe he's only known as Doukas because the other family names was so insignificant that they weren't even worth mentioning. His parents clearly weren't worth recording apparently.

Or this from Wikipedia "During the 12th century, the prestige of the Doukas name meant that it was often taken as a second surname by members of other families, even if remotely (and usually matrilineally) linked to the actual Doukai, who become relatively obscure after the turn of the century. It is hence impossible to clearly distinguish the numerous holders of the name or to discern their exact relationship with the 11th-century Doukid dynasty. The actual bloodline of Constantine X died out probably before 1100, and the last known descendants of his brother, the Caesar John, lived in the first half of the 12th century. The majority of the 12th-century bearers of the name were therefore most likely members of other families, linked through marriage with the Doukai, who chose to emphasize this relationship due to the prestige the name conferred."

Makes more sense to not have him in the family at all because he most likely weren't directly.

Ah, well I suppose I'll mod some type of surviving branch of the dynasty in myself. ( I do like their CoA, however simple it is. )
