So I figure no Paradox game is complete without mention of the greatest country in the history of humanity, Albania!

To begin with, one thing I notice in all the Paradox games is that—unsurprisingly—there's various incorrect or superficial work put into its affairs. That's where I (and I suppose a few others who happen to actually be Albanian) come in.

I'd first like to suggest a list of names appropriate for the period (the format is based on EU3, I obviously expect EU4's to be different but yeah):

Code:
monarch_names = {

I just think that this is something for a mod, if they would do so much detail on every minination then the game would run much slower, and everything that makes the game run slower has so far only caused more OOS in mp-games using the clausewitz engine.

I'm pretty sure detailed name-lists do not cause the game to slow down, but a EU3 expert could probably verify.

That's pretty low, especially since OP isn't demanding unrealistic bonuses because of nationalism, but instead constructively provides material that paradox researchers might have missed. It's not 4chan.

Indeed, his request was pretty modest too.I also don't think that name lists can slow the game down.

Nope they cant, and OPs request is perfectly sensible. Theres no reason not to correct stuff that wasnt correct. It does no damage, only makes the overall game better.

Paradox could also model the fact that Skanderbeg kept the Ottoman Empire at bay for a few decades (as opposed to "Ottoman army enters Albania, annexes it within months"), but I'm sure mods can handle that. :p

I can hardly imagine that, OPM's will always be vulnerable to cheap annexations.

If it were possible, certain plucky little countries should put up more of a fight against superpowers. Albania should be more than a warm-up for the Ottomans.

IIRC, Albania should be allied to Aragon (and possibly the Papal States) at the start date. In 1451 Skanderbeg formally became a vassal of Alfonso V of Aragon and Naples (something that wasn't featured in the EU3 history files). That might help it survive for awhile.

Seeing as you joined forum on Dec 2006, you should have seen more nationalistic discussions upon the above than I played Milan :).

The problem is that there is only one movement position per each province, which means that once enemy gets there, they can besiege province, and once thats done annex it (if its a OPM).

In real life Albanians took great advantage from their homeland's natural terrain, hiding in mountains and ambushing or just ignoring invaders, much like Montenegrins did. My understanding is thats mostly how they resisted Turks, by avoiding them when they were at a disadvantage and ambushing them when they could. It would be awesome to have something like that in EU4, but i dout we will. In any case giving Albania more provinces would surely help it, i did that in my mod.

Possibly, a "hide in the mountains" feature could be created. This would give the opposing army a chance to engage in normal combat each day, but also increase it's attrition.

The problem IMO is that even if that was possible, player could use it, but poor AI could never use such complex feature succesfully, so one more way to exploit it(just like with scorched earth). In EU small nations are meant to be conquered, this is a game about the big boys after all.

Hmmm... aren't you confusing epoques?

Anyway, it would be more realistic if there were different types of armies (and I'm surely not the first to say such a thing). I mean, if you have a levee (efficient in the XV-XVI centuries, but becoming increasingly obsolete) that you can call if you're defending against an invader, then you can have OPMs that can put serious armies in the field. Historically speaking, Albanians managed at the time to raise a 20k army (22k with all the garrisons, but Scanderbeg could put no more than 16k in the field) which was more than sufficient to withstand Ottomans for a long period of time. This would be also a realistic way to contain the wild blobbing that's always a risk in the early stages of the game.

That's just my wishful thinking anyway.

Another thing is that no nation would use all of it's resources and armies to conquer some small nation, while in EU both AI and player will always do that.If that small nation defeats one of your armies somehow, you won't just sign a white peace with them, you will attack with full force, and naturaly defeat them.
