Is this true? I stay out of HRE 99% of the time and I have never joined it. So I can use dalmatia because it borders through a sea zone? Also that guy a few posts earlier said to take Istria but he must have meant dalmatia, because you can't claim istria from bosnian land anyway.

Yes you can use Dalmatia to get inside HRE. Done it dozens of times and latest time was in current patch.

Should Be possible. I know some at the office did it in 1.11, without any exploits.

It is kind of funny sitting with Wiz, Forzaa & DDRJake, and talking about achievements.

I did it this way and it works...like Erilaq said
I actually did it, and tried to recreate surviving again, and it's definitely possible, but more difficult. day 1: roll heir +2 generals for siege. If none have siege, restart. If Austria is friendly with Venice, restart. Once you have siege general, day 1 DoW Bosnia and get access from Serbia. march your 2 stack with Skanderbeg towards Donji Kraji alond with your 1 stack with siege general. Walk "past" Donji Kraji to avoid attrition tick with both, have Skanderbeg drop 1 troop, merge with siege guy, leaving Skanderbeg roaming to prevent Bosnia from gathering more troops. Improve relations with Austria, and cancel mil access from Serbia on dec 12. hopefully you have a fort defense guy, if not, no big deal, but may be harder to siege Donji Kraji and Hum. once you have those two, peace out for them and war reparations, and give Ottomans Albania and War Rep, plus ducats...
At some point everybody liked me and i had france, austria and russia as allies and the rest was gg :)

Yea, its definitely possible. Currently (IMO) the best strategy is downing bosnia and taking 1-2 provinces from them before ottomans conquer yours. In my last playthrough with albania I conquered entire western balkans+hungary at 1550 +/- and was ready to expand to iberia/caucasus, but I made the mistake to border austria too early ( was my ally), which made them agressive towards me (5 years later, they downed me because they wanted to conquer istria and ottomans decided to dow me at the same time :S ).

To survive Ottoman onslaught as Ragusa there is a way I've found out that can work with a bit of luck. First you need to defeat both Serbia & Bosnia. Turn the one into march whose borders are with Ottomans. Your next step should be to try getting Austria on your side, try joining HRE if possible by snatching some provinces from Hungary when it is down fighting Ottomans an inevitable war. From then on you should be able to fight a defensive war against Ottomans. Do try finishing off Venice if you get the opportunity to do so.

Oh yes, it's definitely possible I did it twice in a row too! Well... The first time I totally died because revolutionaries robbed me of my glory in the final 40 years of the game. They refused to siege my capitol and I went bankrupt :(
Though the second time I went for Urbino and that was incredibly boring. Hehe except for the end the end was pretty baller gotta love imperialism CB those were some tight final years :)

No-CBing Gazikumukh day one was the most exciting playthrough though. The caucusus with all the big powers surrounding it make for an incredibly exciting region!

Used Urbino into HRE approach. So far in the late 1500s i have all italian culture provices + Pyrenees (to restrict France from expanding in the iberian peninsula) and some portugese ports. Also got part from Caucasus (to restrict Ottos from expanding in this direction). Currently i`m in war with Otto for reclaiming Albania, i'm in 6 year regency so it will be a long war, good thing is that Ottos are in the middle of westernizing (i`m still eastern and don`t plan to westernize). If everything works as intended and Russia surrenders the 2 provinces i need from them fast - Achievement will be done in the mid to late 1600s.

And sometimes the Golden Horde attacks, while Crimea is still at war with Theodoro and it's allies, usually the Byzantines or Georgia, start sieging back Theodoro and other provinces. In one game Theodore vassalized Crimea after the golden horde took a big bite out of it and Crimea was a two province minor. The annexed crimea, Golden horde got Crimean Patriots, flipping to Theodoro, they kicked Genoa's ass out of the Crimea, then turned onto Circassia and the Golden Horde after that. Lithuania got in problems and rebels broke off Kiev and Theodoro DOWed them on day 1 of their independence and ate them. I was playing as Brittany and was enjoying their huge expansion. But they need to get really lucky for I've seen them become a major power only ones in hundreds of campaigns :p
Actually theodoro sn't that difficult. Not often, but not rare either Crimea comes in a war with genoa and lithuania which stomps them, you declare war with conquest from claim fabricated and take what you want
