As to having several wives, only the Aztec nobility was allowed this privilege before the advent of their islamic conversion !
Btw, the aztec empire is a bit of an european misconception as it was more some kind of military alliance involving (three or more) city/tribal states if I remember correctly. In our history, Cortes took advantage of some dynastic troubles of one of the alliance partners and of the fact that everybody around hated them.
Still I like what you've done there and I think you got off lightly : you managed to skim off one province from the spanish (not to mention burning some of their new world possessions) while you seemed to be losing the war to the navarrese. Beware them, they were the ones who began the christian Reconquista

1. Quoran clearly says that only drinks made from grapes and grain are prohibited. Cactus juice will be tolerated
2. One of the reasons Aztecs became Muslims was that their nobility did not want to give up all their wives. Remember, it was a contest between Christianity and Islam, and under Christian laws... well, you know it. Many wives for common folks was a plus but not a necessity, since it was the emperor and nobles who made a decision.
3. Aztec military union was called an empire because it was the only political entity in that part of the world. Aztecs were able to bring all other tribes under there direct or indirect control, and in that sense, they, like Romans, became the masters of the known to them world and an empire.
4. I thought about sneaking up on Navarra and annexing them, but it was too late in the war, since Catalonia made a separate peace and Euskadia was used by Navarrese to bring more reinforcements to the south. Even if it was possible, or if it becomes possible in future wars, I will still refuse to do it simply because one annexation was plenty enough for a small nation like Granada. Bad boy is at 11 and although it is nothing compared to what I have as Russia, it is still enough to keep me from annexing any nation, forget about Catholics altogether. I do not wish to see French and Italians crusading in Al-Andalus. I just have to hope that Catalonia will take care of Navarrese for me. Would be nice if they annexed them, but only Allah can make AI to perform a miracle.

since save game editing is voodoo to me, how exactly would one convert a country, or, hypothetically, give a colonial dynamism to say, just for the sake of argument, Ireland

Find your savegame file in scenarios/Save Games folder, open it in wordpad/notepad/whicheveryoulike, find your country info and change its attributes. For example, if Irish had
religion = catholic
you can change it to
religion = sunni

but changing the colonial dynamism is different, I changed Irelands
dynamism=0
to
dynamism=1 (like france)
dynamism=2 (like england)
dynamism=3 (like spain)
dynamism=4 (like noone)

I think the problem is my dynamism doesn't have a start date, but I haven't figured how to set that up (analyzing england and frances settings just bewildered me)

I do not know if this can help, but try looking in TUTORIAL scenario or in FANTASIA - I think in TUTORIAL when I was playing Ireland as the only opition I had a continuous supply of colonists.

I started with independent Burgundy. My reasoning was: if Spain is kicked hard in the beginning, Carlos wouldn't be able to inherit former Burgundian lands.

nalivayko as i have said before, you are my favorite aar writer. you seem to write some of the best stories in abundance and dont give up where others would. you have many great aars and i hope to see this great one get the praise it deserves. i anxiously await your next installment buddy, have a great time off and congratulations on graduation
warspite, Cornelius, thank you, friends. I've finally got two diplomas in my hands, things should speed up now. In fact, I could have written a next installment a day ago, but my save game is at work (where else?), so I had to limit myself to a 30 years war scenario. Anyhow, check for the real stuff tomorrow.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this aar is discontinued - I accidently deleted the last savegame file. I had the one from 5 years before and I tried to restore the results of the last war - and it didn't work quite well (Catalonia did not get Aragon, even though it could, dammit). Tried to edit the file and screwed it up big time. Again, I am sorry, but after messing with it for three hours I give up. Don't judge me too hard

I have been playing Granada myself. It is a fun nation. But you are right, she's cursed. Everything was working fine, I was at war with Spain, who was reduced to Euskadi, Aragon and Toledo, when France declared war on me followed by Navarra, Catalonia declared her independence, Portugal, Andalucia, Leon, Galicia, Asturias, Valencia and Castille fell to the rebels and the Spaniards began to burn my entire colonial empire.
Granada is not cursed. Inspired by Masse, I had a go. Took Andalusia, Toledo, Murcia and Euskadia. Allied with France, fought defensive awars against Spain, eventually taking tuxpan and Zacetas of them.
Then when I thought the time was ripe, invaded and annexed Portugal (France got Oporto) and with their maps, headed for India, where I was pretty much left alone by the other Europeans to do what I pleased. By the time England got their 40 years later, India belonged Granada.
