I have decided to rehaul the IFU, to bring it up to date with 1.08, make it in English, and maybe bring some interest back to this mod (which is very good). This will be unofficial (I have no contact with the original developers), so all errors and srew ups will be on my head only.

To date most of the crossover to 1.08 has been completed, while only the events need to be retagged and re-ideed (is that a word!) and translated from pseudo-English into readable English.

The plan is to update monarch and leader lists, provide a wealth of new events, relook at some of the existing events (at the moment I am looking at redoing the Francia breakup events) ans so on.

For the now, I shall provide the new tag lists etc.

GRAPHICS
at the moment, I have pilfered graphics from numerous sites and other mods. (new graphics were needed, as the pallete has changed, so the flags are fuzzy). I have also added new shields (I cant do flags) for Karelia, Volgo-Bulgars, Mordvinians, Slovenia and Lappland. Unfortunately many other graphics are either anachronistic or used because they 'look right' (ie. totally wrong- but hey better than the stars and bars in Eastern Europe right?)

that should do it for the now. A note on events - uses paradox randomevents 94,000-100,000. IFU events are being re-ideed at 100,001+, and new events should constitute numerical numbers over and above that.

Inital release!!!

Announcing beta_1 of AJFIFU (basically my version of IFU)
download is available at my website (found in signature) and will also be available in the user made scenario upload sub-forum (when I can get the attachment to stick :eek:o )

This scenario is basically the IFU with tags realigned to be more logical and to be updated with the officialParadox 1.08 patch. The scenario represents history from 751 AD to 1150 AD. The reason for the release is to mainly provide a foundation for any changes and contributions anyone may wish to make, as this beta can then be used as a base. Any playtesting and bug listing will be appreciated as this project is far from complete (any comments make it in the IFU forum). Please note: I was not involved in the original IFU and therefore, this isnt really 'IFU' - but as the IFU seems to be dead, I dont think the creators will be too upset with me

INSTALLATION
To install, just extract the zipfile in your EU2 directory. All files are held in a folder called AJFIFU and so will not overwrite any files. I do not have an installation program so you will have to create your own shortcut on the desktop. This should be no problem. If you have any other moddir scenario already on your desktop just copy and paste back on desktop and rename it AJFIFU, enter properties and change 'target field' to "C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Universalis 2\EU2.exe" C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Universalis 2\AJFIFU or wherever your EU2 folder is located.

The download is just over 4 MB and includes all the major IFU files bar the Music (which while nice, makes the download huge and the music cannot be moddired).

Also included in AJFIFU_beta1 are the following.....

CONFIG FOLDER
The text.csv is 1.08 and is in English. However most IFU event descriptions have been put through an on-line translator from German into pseudo-English. Most of which can be understood, but are far from perfect.

DB FOLDER
Several changes to revolt.txt, I have added many IFU countries that did not have revolt entries and have started to integrate new countries that existed at this time. A Good example is around the Low Counties.

...LEADERS
Added a plethora of names of Celtic, Saxon, Early French and Briton names to the RandomLeaders file. The file also contains Finnish names and a host of others.

...EVENTS
Two new event files, introducing initial viking raids on the British coastline and basic events for the formation of Christian Spain. Naturally, future releases will contain considerably more event files, as well as proper translations of the IFU or to gradually take them out and replace.

GRAPHICS
Not my area of expertise. However, I have tried to provide shield sets for most countries in IFU and are therefore good quality 24-bit and the flags are now compatible with 1.08's new palette. I have shamelessly stolen many of the sets from various websites, requests and other mods. Therefore any set that anyone recognises as theirs and are unhappy about me blatently nicking it may contact me and I shall see about replacing it. I have personally made shields (but not flags) for Karelia, Lappland, Volgo-Bulgars, Brittany, Slovenia and Mordvinians, so you can blame me personnally for them being awful

Sounds cool! There's 2 downloads on your site; ayeifu.zip and AJFIFU_beta1.zip. Which one should I be downloading? (ie which one is latest?) I saw the IFU ages ago but was deterred by the german only eventsand the generally broken links to download. Hopefully, you've finally made it possible for me to play it! :)

It is the AJFIFU_beta1.zip on 'click here to download' button.

I will remove the first download (it was only a text.csv and a few .inc files)
NOTE: the original events arent in perfect english (far from it), but it is better than having them in German (if you dont understand German).

If you have any comments or ideas please feel free to give them.

Hi there, looks really promising. I've dl'd the file from your website but in all honesty it's been ages since I last played EU2 and I can't get the mod to work :(

The folder AJFIFU is created, but there's no exe file in it, and running the regular EU2.exe either gives me no scenario options or when I move the scenario over, I get a complete freeze (Im probably doing something terribly wrong, but would appreciate a simple walkthrough :))

edit: running the eu2.exe file from within the AFJIFU dir (copied it there) gives an "---excel file not found" error

edit2: nevermind, got it to work...I apparently did not have 1.08 installed ;) Ottomans, among others, seem selectable however--and many European nations have odd cultures. Let me know if you need any help clearing those up after my finals are over on the 22nd :)

hmm, glad you could get it to work :)

As for the ottoman selectable and odd cultures, i am at a loss  it should work perfectly. Have you installed properly?...

The game should read the country names and culture setup from the text.csv found in the AJFIFU config folder and not the vanilla GC.

But thanks for post, will check my end to see if problem is here. Oh and one more important thing which I failed to mention...

This scenario needs the latest version of montezumas Unlimited Time patch to work, as the starting date is 751AD.

Great work, Ayeshteni ! Do you need some help (monarchs, leaders)? I could give you some information about the counties of Barcelona and Roussillon, which could appear around 900. If you need the info, just tell me ;-)

I'd be willing to help. Although I don't know much about modding. On the plus side though, I am a native German speaker.

Ayeshteni, so what would be a good place to start?

If you are willing, then translations of the IFU event descriptions from German into English would be EXTREEEEEEMLY helpful, as all I have done so far is to run them through an online translator and they are clunky at best.

Though it would be really hard work to do. If you are really interested then just say and I will start another thread and post some event descriptions in original IFU German for you (or any other German speakers) to translate.

Thanks

Well I could translate some, but from reading through the really old threads here, that is not a one man job. but I could get started, just post some (maybe the really important ones first...)

I played throught the mod a little bit, what's that thing with Jewish states? seems odd. also, did the "German founding fathers" ever change techgroups, religious modifiers etc?

Nice to see this mod alive again :) I see you already implemented a few interesting changes as well, especially regarding the western slavs. If you wish I could give you a bit feedback and idea's I have on that territory (some of it might change things a bit drastically so be warned ;)), regarding setups, monarchs, leaders and town-names... While asking already then, is it your intention to follow history on all hard facts only or would you be open to suggestions out of the more semi-legendary or even outright hypothetical kind of history-writing for the western slavs (mostly medieval chronicles I happened just to study a bit)? I could put some suggestion and idea's then during the weekend when I'm done with some MES stuff I have yet to submit...

I seem to recognize a few MES shields as well, sometimes on very unexpected places... I would love to help you get better one's but that will be a hell of a job to do I don't think I would be able to shortly....

And no plans for the Indian continent? I know IFU didn't had India either but...? Or you have no religion left for them?

hehe, tell me about it. I will open a new thread for translations then. And I promise only to post a couple at a time ;)

EDIT: oops, I dont have the events in German anymore. :eek:o . I will download the IFU again to get the text.csv (unless anyone has it and can email it to me at ayeshteni2@hotmail.com - save me downloading 20MB). At any rate when I get it, I will start up a translation thread.

The Khazar Khanate apeared to be 'jewish' in character, and I have heard something along those lines as well, so this is why it is so in the original IFU.

There have been changes to techgroups and (I beleive) religious modifiers. The Land Tech progression has been slowed down somewhat, this I know. The actual Tech names (Late Classical, Early Dark Ages etc) are mine as they were not changed in the original (however, I am not happy with the names, so will be altering them again later).

I have to admit, that I know very little about this particular area so any information will be appreciated (even just a few monarch names). At the moment I wish to get the framework of the regions in place so that there are historical events for those places, rather than what-ifs. However, once there are some historical events then alternative branches could always be introduced ;) . As for legends an such, if it impacted on the slavs at the time.....why not! :D

:D As I said, I have stolen from all-over. I took a few MES that had a particular 'feel' (pagan/tribal etc) where I couldnt find any source files for those places (as I said, the East isn't my particular field). But I mainly wanted graphics that were not 'Modena in Russia' 'USA in Carpathians' etc, like the original IFU.

Ayeshteni

so there is two Asiatic? I guess I don't understand...

I ran a hands-off game yesterday and was surprised how stable the game was. overall, not much territory changed hands in the first 100years (except Langobardia went nuts on the balkans). I like that there is so many tiny cultures, it would make it harder to control a bigger empire. I am definitely for including alternate histories, mythical events etc (how about adapting some of the vinland stuff for example), but I agree that there should be a historical framework first.

Yes, well, to be more spcific there are the following levels of information regarding Slavic west:
1. (almost) Certain information (meaning based on written contemporary information - mostly German chronicles. Problematically enough most of these tend to ignore the Slavs till at least ~850 (more precisely 850 for Bohemia/Moravia, Polabian Slavs have 'history' from ~930 and Poles since 963).
2. Oral tradition. Till ~1950 historians ignored this kind of sources which however seems to be quite valuable in researching history of likes Africa and American Indians. Also Scandinavians and Slavs have however sources of oral tradition which vhistorians (in various degree) start to appreciate (already the 3 rulers before Mieszko I you included are based on oral tradition only, Piast (corr. spelling of Piastus) is btw wrong as he was certainly not a ruler, only the 'father of the dynasty')
3. High-Medieval chronicles, written usually in 12th century and later which tended to be bombastique and 'invent' parts of history when they could not come with one. So is the first Polish chronicle from ~1200 full of a great Polish kings who fought with Romans, Persians and even Alexander the Great of Macedon. Although by itself thus rather certainly bs one can for example still try to consider the used names of rulers as possibly authentic
4. Legends. There are quite a few, not seldom quite similar even (all western and eastern slavs know the Lech, Cech and Rus legend - free brothers who started the states of Poland, Czechs and Russia; Also both Bohemia and Poland have a similar legend of Krakus and his river-jumping daughter). Legends are a part of oral tradition and were greatfully accepted as parts of the medieval chronicles. Basically these are more often not really believable but as they say - every legend contains a core of truth :D

So what I mean with 'hypothetical stuff' is rather a restoration of history based on not-so-solid resources (as they are lacking) - iow say lists of monarchs and cities, and event idea's based thus on oral tradition, legends and somewhat these medieval chronicles. Not even alternative stuff (or that only if you mean alternative for nothing :D)

I would say most stuff I can suggest to you regards Poland, Bohemia and 'German' Slavs... I can perhaps best start later a thread on it and pomp some info and links there - this forum is here for that after all :D

so there is two Asiatic? I guess I don't understand...

I ran a hands-off game yesterday and was surprised how stable the game was. overall, not much territory changed hands in the first 100years (except Langobardia went nuts on the balkans). I like that there is so many tiny cultures, it would make it harder to control a bigger empire. I am definitely for including alternate histories, mythical events etc (how about adapting some of the vinland stuff for example), but I agree that there should be a historical framework first.

Oh...I missed that thanks, will make sure all asiatics use the same one and earmark the other for later use. Thanks for pointing it out (it is amazing how you can miss the obvious :p )

It is a stable game. I reduced the revolt risks to Francia, as rebels were rampaging and the provinces were joining Muslim Spain (all the way to the North Sea in fact).

As to the cultures, yeah I like that too, however, I am thinking of events that will start turning them to to homoginised ones as the scenario progresses (like what has been done with the Rus) into 'state-ish' cultures. I am still trying to think how to move the magyars from the don region into hungary for instance!!!

I can perhaps best start later a thread on it and pomp some info and links there - this forum is here for that after all :D

hehe, yes I agree. And yes again, that would be good. ;)

homogenising sounds good. as far as tribes moving etc goes, I think we have to be careful not to be to deterministic. but then on the other hand it should still somewhat resemble history. I could picture events, where you get a CB against a country (maybe cores+put that country on the hit list for the AI), where that tribe moved. when you secure a certain province in a war, you get a choice of changing that new province to state culture (+some other goodies) but at the same time secede the province that tribe historically left. then have a B choice to keep the status quo. this would make the AI "move" most of the time, but the problem will probably be if it is able to win that initial war. I wouldn't like if for example the magyars get Hungary simply through events without doing anything for it. Thinking about it, if there are cases where provinces were obtained through treaties only, it would be okay to do that.

regarding mythical events, they should definitely be included. I would suggest stating the "mythical character" in the event text, that adds to the educational value of EUII:)
