Since the New DLC Release this month I realise a big change in aircombat, or better said of the airbases.

Earlier the airplans just changed their airbase automatically if theirs got conquered by enemies. Now they disappear. They are totally gone, not in stock, not on another base or anywhere else.

Is this a wanted change of the developers so that the enemy can conquer airbases and get the planes on them or is this a bug?

Edit: I realized something that hints that its a bug. The missing planes were 205 in the spanish civil war. I wanted to send new ones, cuz the others are gone after the Carlists rebelled and took the airbase where my planes where at, but its still shown, that i have 205 planes in spain although there are none of my missing planes(40 fighters and 165 bombers), neither in my planeslist. Look at the screenshots.

This seems like a bug, and it seems like there are plenty of bug reports about it. Any time the province owner changes while the planes are stationed there, the planes just disappear. It happens to AI too, I can see from intelligence reports that they're losing planes as well when I take their airfields.

Yeah, this is a nasty bug if you like to send air volunteers to China, Ethiopia, or Spain for some early game Air XP. I hope it gets fixed soon.

If you happen to have a save from before (and then another from after) your planes disappeared, you may want to attach it to one of those existing bug reports. That should help get a solution expedited.

Yeah, but I always play on ironmanmode, there I cant save the game manually :/

Anyway, this bug got reported lots of times as i see, so i guess Paradox is allready informed about it.

It seems like it might be both a bug and a desired change.

In real life, planes that are airborne when an airport changes hands should be able to go to any friendly airbase within range automatically.
Planes that cannot take off when the enemy approaches should be destroyed or captured.

I don't know if that is what they were trying to do, but some escaping and some destroyed/captured would seem logical as opposed to all simply disappear..

I actually enjoyed being able to whittle down UK's humongous plane stockpile with this bug, without having to engage in endless air combat, tactical nuking, or keeping the planes intact but grounded due to oil blockade. Hopefully there will be some mechanic to destroy or capture planes that a legitimate gameplay option rather than a bug.

Planes do not only get deleted when their base is conquered, they are also deleted if you release a country as puppet (even while at peace) and their base is in the new puppet's territory. I lost half my airforce as Yugoslavia by doing the focus that releases Bosnia this way.

Well yep it is happening, i guess some god-worthy code from pdx not only deletes Rockets but also planes.
From changelogs:
"- Rocket sites will now properly delete remaining stock when captured and not crash the game further down the line"
