A response to this post here

This is great diary! I am interested how all the symbols for companies are researched? Are they going to be historical?
Wherever we can and have time to find logos yes. There were companies during this time that didnt really have logos though so we do take some artistic freedom as well.

Please find more than 100 aircraft manufacturer logos from most countries for the era in this post. They were looked up for a mod when I had too much time back in the days of Arsenal of Democracy. Some of them were extremely hard to find, so I hope you can make use of this.

Also do use the proper name Svenska Aeroplan AB instead of the abbrevation SAAB. Sounds way cooler and is more accurate since the company was not known as SAAB AB until 1965.

I wonder what will the Soviet manufacturers' logos look like...

Here´s one, probably one of the most famous (aviation company formed by the famous Andrej Tupolev).

tupolevLogo.gif

There where manufacturers in the USSR too you know, in theory they competed with each other to win contracts much like western companies did.

Well the situation in USSR was a bit more complicated. Usually they had design bureaus instead of competing manufacturers. IIRC some of the famous constructors worked from Gulags.

No matter. Is this logo from the WW2 time period?

Well I found few logos of Construction bureau, but since they are real companies right now I dont know If you could use their logos.

The best Idea would be If you contact them and ask their opinion of how historically their logo would look like.

"General Aircraft South America" sounds like generic/placeholder, lol :D

The company actually existed and they built their first aircraft in the 50s.

All these should be in the pack. Good job anyways Soviet logos are definitively the hardest ones to find.

In addition to Fokker, the Netherlands had some more companies:

Koolhoven:

Dont really have a clean picture of the logo, but i have one from the factory.

Lastly the Netherlands also had De Schelde, however i was unable to vind any good logo's

Logos for all these should be in the pack as well.

De schelde aircraft was built by Koninklijke Maatschappij De Schelde and you can see the logo for that in the bottom left corner of the picture I uploaded.

umm... just two things, first "Gulag" is a name, not the type of prison, second don't know any constructor who would work from any prison during war. And Gulag was a prison for political prisoners of communist regime and I doubt that these poor people had even pens or pencils not mentioning to be able two send any info outside prison. Maybe some example?

According to Wikipedia this was actually the case though the so called Sharaskas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharashka where the scientists and engineers worked was of much higher quality then the facilities regular gulag inmates where allocated to. It should be noted that many of those that succeded in their projects where later released and even given rewards and medals by the government for their services to the nation.

Andrei Tupolev and Vladimir Petlyakov together with their entire research teams (the TsAGI and EDO) where arrested in 1937 but where then relased in 1941 (Tupolev) and 1940 (Petlyakov) after having made succesful designs in the form of the T-2 (a dive bomber that proved to be very effective) and the Pe-2 (a multi-role fighter aircraft that was also used by the finnish airforce during the continuation war).
