Please, can someone explain me what's happening ?

I have 3 kinds of, say, fighters. 1 very old, 1 rather old and 1 modern. I have some experienced air units which are equipped in the very old (2/3) et tier 1 fighters (1/3), I have set them to "Elite squadron", but they aren't equipped in the modern (tier 2) fighters I have in stock. The modern fighters just stay in the stock.

Is it a "reinforcement" thing ? I ask because the tooltip says it will be "reinforced" with the more modern stuff. But of course I don't want them to wait for losses to get those modern planes, that doesn't make any sense.
How can this squadron be provided in modern fighters without loosing the experience ?

Any idea plz ?

Out of curiosity, did you click the blue star icon when setting up the squadron...this locks the makeup of aircraft (whatever ratio of new/old aircraft you used to create the unit) in that squadron.

No, I clicked the 3 orange arrows that point to the top, "Elite squadron" as I said. That's why I don't get what's happening.

I tried but cannot reproduce it. I cant keep the newest planes in stock if I don't use the blue star.

Can you show some screenshots? You are not using Mods?

Not using any mods, all DLCs except "La Résistance" which i didn't buy.

Fortunately I tried to change the air wing setting for "Standard" and waited for a few days and it seems to have fixed the problem.
But I can assume that I had 4 wings, whose 1 was "Elite", old stuff, and I had dozens of brand new modern fighters in stock that didn't want to populate this wing..

I could be unable to make a screenshot now probably, but I will check in savegames if I can.

May be this test is helpful for you:

Avaialbe:
interwar fighter He 52
interwar fighter variant He 52A
interwar fighter variant He 52B
fighter1 Bf 109

Symbol blue star: only the planes with the same variant-name
Startwing: interwar fighter He 52 - only interwar fighter He 52 were added to fill

Startwing: interwar fighter He 52A - only interwar fighter He 52A were added to fill

Symbol 3 orange "arrows" :
Startwing: interwar fighter He 52 - only fighter1 BF 109 were added to fill and replace.
Until the wing is not filled, you ave a mix of these two planes.

Remark: the restrictions were choosen in the wing-creating screen only, not by editing the wing at airbase

Ok with this, it's of course the easiest to understand.

Yes, but there was a problem at my end. Still can't get it.

Are you saying that those settings can't be changed in the "Rearrange air unit" screen ? We can tick another wing status here though.. And it seems to be effective to me.
Yet of course the effect will also depend on the actual wing composition at the time you change the setting, but it should do something, right ?

Should work either way. It's just that due to PDS... ingeniousness of UI design, people tend to forget existence of redundant UI elements (which was the case for wing reorganization until 1.9.1).
