Do the Anti-Air support companies from divisions attack aircraft over/around their current province, or only those planes which directly attack that particular division/province?

For example, playing as Germany, if I place divisions with AA support companies all along my coastline, will they shoot down planes that fly across the channel to bomb my inland industry? Or do they only help defend the industry/infrastructure in the state that their current province is located? Or does division AA only help defend against planes that are specifically tasked with attacking that particular unit?

I guess I'm essentially asking if garrisoning important regions with units equipped with AA will help defend the strategic assets of that region, as opposed to only the units themselves.

When I saw Jacob make one of his first attacks in the west, I saw that 50 bombers were added to the battle going on between ground units. If you have Anti- Air as part of that battle, I can see it having a chance to shoot some of those bombers down.

Sure, I have no doubt that they have an effect on the air units participating in the current battle. I'm want to know whether or not they are of use outside of individual battles in which their unit is participating.

For example, if I have a garrison of troops in Berlin with an AA company, that AA company should help defend the industry in that region from Strategic bombers. I don't think it makes sense otherwise because the AA isn't just going to sit there like "well, those bombers are going after the factories, not us, so that's none of my business." I realize air missions are handled by regions, not provinces, so I'm not sure how that would work, but I still think it should make a difference.

Strategic bombers tend to fly outside the range of medium anti aircrafts guns so they would not help much. Heavy anti aircrafts guns in turn would not be that good against CAS so I assume that division anti air is mainly medium guns.

I think this is the case.

I know that in HOI 3 they were named some of the AA techs after a heavy AA gun, aka 88mm Flak 18, HOI 2 research would say 90mm AA gun, but I think that was misleading.

I agree with this, but isn't it true that medium bombers can, and often are, also used for strategic bombing missions, and therefore medium guns would be useful in that situation?

Strategic bombing was generally done at high altitude, no matter the aircraft. Not all the time of course with some famous examples, the low level B24 US raids on Ploesti oil fields for example.

Since HOI does not get that specific on bombing missions it is going to act like every strat raid is at least 3-4K high.
