I have noticed that in almost all the OOB for WWII that the squadron was the main battle unit. Hearts of Iron air formations are in the line of 80 to 100 aircraft. The Squadron was from 20 to 30 aircraft. The average U.S. fighter unit was the squadron of 30 aircraft. And that was the Army Air Corps or the Navy VF. The German equivalent was I./JG n which ran at the beginning of the war arround 35 to 40 aircraft. In addition these units would be shared among the various air armies (Luftflotte and Flieger-Divisions).
In all the time I was in the Air Force, the squadron of 20 aircraft led by a Lt. Colonel was the main unit. I was in the 465th Bomb Squadron and we had an additional KC-135 squadron base with us. Together we made up the 781st Bomb Wing which was part of the 8th Air Force (SAC).
Can you modify the air part of this to show equivalancies, such as, 2. Flieger-Division which consisted of I./KG 4, II./KG 4, III./KG 4, I./KG 76, III./KG 76, I./KG 77, II./KG 77, and III./KG 77
