Apparently land based planes which are assigned to naval missions do not show up as casualties on the UI once they get shot down in naval combat. Is this intentional or is this a problem with the UI?
I also get a bunch of naval battle results where something was "supposed to have" happened but nothing is displayed on the UI at all. What are these supposed to mean?
I think that is a fairly recent development. In earlier versions I specifically remember smaller NAV or CAS wings doing partial damage to convoys, like 15%. You could see this accumulating to become 30 and then 45 etc. as the convoy continued on its way through the zone. The partially damaged convoys would get a free repair when they reached port, however. That's naval strikes against convoys.
Since amount of planes max allowed to attack is determined by total strength of fleet I am guessing they are bugged in some way (perhaps convoys are not coded like warships are), and as such 0 planes are allowed to attack the "convoy fleet".

I had determined that the critical point with NAV 1 to get whole kills instead of partials on convoys was 80 planes more or less. I do agree, however, that I have not seen such attacks lately. At some point (1.3.0 I think) they seem to have lost their ability to hit convoys.
Now that you mention it I do remember seeing airplanes hit convoys in the earlier versions of the game.
