Hi guys, I am having a blast with my current campaign unless it comes to crusades. It is the fourth time the pope decided to wage a holy war against andalusia. As far as I get it, their Sheikh has 20k worth of levy and domain armies. He is not calling his muslim buddies. I see stacks of 8-9k joining the crusade, the emperor of france even has 14k. And every one of them fails!
Why? First stupid thing the AI does is not joining forces to build greater stacks - the small to medium stacks get gobbled up by a 15k doomstack which in turn does not get significant losses. The big christian stacks have fun running around the pyrenaeans without sieging something, without helping a smaller stack attacked by said doomstack (could easily be 20k to 15k instead 7k to 15k) and even not entering some province near the crusade goal. I provided 60% by sieging stuff and smashing small stuff but my big allies are not capable to bind the muslim forces so clock ticks down everytime and my effords are made irrelevant because of lost battles. Christian authority is at 15% because of not winning those fricking wars and the french emperor having fun spamming antipopes regardless of how many heresies plop up in his domain. AI should be more competent in joining stacks to actually defeat large stacks. The defending AI has an easier task...just raise levies and merge to one stack. There should be an option to 'join crusade army'. Currently, you can just attach...but the AI seems to be too stupid to make sense of it. I wonder: am I doing something wrong or is it really the AI getting roflstomped by a single big army?

Ya know come to think of it.

In my current dear-god-when-is-this-going-to-end-iron-crown-of-lombardy-achievement run we did take Andalusia to easily.

I had between 15 and 18k and he was the emperor of Hispania floating at I think 25-30k. And I remember when we declared, I remember there was no giant raising like a player might do, like is advisable.

Eventually he did start to swing some bigger stacks at us, but never the whole number, this is probably why he lost.

I am fine with him having big stacks. He is an emperor. I am just a bit sad, that there are no rally points for crusader armies and the possibility to join forces to defeat such stacks. If you have 20k of troops and are attacked with a total of 50k...you should not win 4/4 times. Let there be some kind of diplomacy like 'request to join armies at province X' (where your own army is). The higher your rank and positive stats like high martial, crusader and stuff is, the more likely it is they come and join stacks with you as supreme commander. I would especially like that with my own vassals joining up with their rightful king and not running around with 1k to 1,5k stacks not doing anything but chalk up losses.
