So it have been confirmed that there's no time limit but win conditions have been introduced (Comquest, Science, Archeology etc.), just like in Civ.

However, will the AI be able to claim a win by fufilling some win condition (just like in Civ)? This would in some sense feel like some "soft" time limit. I hope this is not the case.

I personally hope the AI can win and are quite difficulty to beat.

One problem with Paradox games is once you learn the game, it gets pretty easy. The only reason I still play Paradox games (other than Vic 2/HoI3 where you can get some truely hard starts) is because of the achievements which provide a very sustainable challenge.

I agree with you (to some extent). The only reason I play EuIV is also for the achivments, for the same reason as you. I was gona write little about this initially, but decided to skip out for simplicity.
I wonder how they will make the achivments in such a case. If there's neither a hard nor a soft time limit, than for most games you would be pretty much sure to win if you got past some stage. Now this would make euiv style of achivments hard to create (unless you added a time limit to them, but then we are back were we started).

It would work if the chances of being wiped out were the same throughout the game. Slow fracturing of you empire makes it hard to slowly bide your time, the presence of potentially dangerous AI empires end game disasters and so on. How ever if they managed to suced with that it would probably be an all time first for this kind of game. They've (kinda) said that's there ambitions, but we'll see...

We'll probably have to waint a month and a half to be sure how it's gonna work out.

I hope you get an option to set victory conditions.

I really hate it when I just get going, and I get a timer saying an AI empire will win because they hold an ascension crystal or somesuch.

I don't care the achivments system at all.
Are you saying Paradox failed to make hard AI in EU4? Are you saying if they make the same AI as in EU4 then the game will be childsplay?

The game don't end because of victory, but it may be seen as point then a empire have gotten so powerful that the game is decided, although civil wars may change that.

Considering if you play as Ottomans, France, Spain, UK, Muscovy, Lithuania, Austria and the game turns into childsplay: yes. One problem with Stellaris is the symmetrical start, so if the AI isn't good then there is really no way to set up yourself for a challenge like EU4 where you can play as Granada, Brittany, Teutonic Order etc..

We can actually make our own maps. I don't know if that's included as an ingame map editor or only achievable by modding though.

As we know so far there are Fallen Empires and Advanced AI Starts, which would definitely make game harder

Actually they showed that you may give the AI empires (or at least some of them) a starting advantage.

Right, but it depends on how well they can maintain that advantage because it doesn't seem to be like the historical bonuses countries got in EU4 where Prussia, France, Russia, Rev. France are gods among men.

Look at Civ 5. Deity gives a ton of startgame bonuses and bonuses as the game progresses. And people can still beat that. Just starting bonuses is probably going to be pretty easy to deal with as long as you just sit around for long enough to surpass the AI.

I'm fine with what they have right now. I just hope they add more to really make the game (optionally) difficult. This game is really nice because with previous Paradox games. AI being hard led to big flame wars on how powerful nations of these time periods could be. But with Space, options for difficulty are limitless. Of course mods will be interesting too. I would love to see a mod where positive and negative traits are doubled just to see some really crazy games where you have a science faring nation trying to defend itself against some low tech ftl horde.

You sound as if that isn't the case with EU4, most countries can be beaten with enough time and effort, especially since none really start of as all that powerful. Take the Ottomans for instance, it is perfectly possible to beat them as Byzantium without too much skill and that is considered one of the harder starts.

In my previous posts I have said how EU4 is already really easy. Stellaris I'm worried is just going to take the same formula but make it so it's more symmetrical making the game a snore.

If EU4 is easy and dev team make the same formula here then stellaris will be good for multiplayer only. Playing againt the easy stupid AI is pointless. I don't think I will buy Stellaris.
