American version patched to 1.08

In the GC as Austria, I was ahead of the Turks in a war, I offered peace and only asked for cash, 1,000 D. Turkey accepted, but I only get around 200 D. So, I saved the game, switched sides and opened the saved game as Turkey. I thought I had gotten all the Turks money because I got less that the sum agreed on. Wrong! Turkey had over 19,000 D in their bank account. They could have easily paid me the full amount that they agreed to. So why not, what's up here?

Maybe they had a good year :) Or maybe Turkish officials disguised the treasury as a coffee house and pled poverty.

The only explanation I can think of, other than a bug of course, is that the reloading and switching sides may have screwed something up. Do you have a save game from just before the peace. If so, look at Turkey's treasury there and see if they had the money to pay.

The save just before the peace agreement was in March. I reloaded it tonight again and immediately made a peace with the Turks, they agreed to a 1,000 D settlement, but I only got a little over 300 D of that amount. So it was not because of a new year's revenues.

In the saved game file under Turkey was this:

'treasury = 19118.863281'

Which happens to be the same amount showing for the Turks when I switched sides and played them.

Carl, it must be some bug, you should edit the file and switch some money over to your account from Turkey. You've found two problems, the first that you were swindled, and the second; what was Turkey doing with 17,000 ducats. If they had that much money they should have put forces into the field that would obliterate anybody. What year was it? If early in the game, those 17,000 =1.7 million infantrymen that should be assaulting all the way to Vienna. Even with manpower limits, and buying cavalry and guns, Austria should never have been in a position to defend against that kind of strength.

How many allies did you have?

Money is divided among your allies in a war if you lead the alliance.

Carl,
you quoted :
'I only had 3 allies...'
'Turkey accepted, but I only get around 200 D'

I think you get it. You received 1000 D divided among the 4 allies that gives 250 D each.
Am I right?

That's it!

I was the alliance leader and I had 2 allies, making for a total of 3 in the alliance. Splitting the 1000 D three way equals 333 D for each ally, and that is very close to the amount I received (most likely the exact amount).

So, you share the spoils of war, if you're the alliance leader.

Thanks Johan for clearing up this issue, and for once again showing that the AI is not cheating.

It was 1556, and yes, I was amazed at the amount of cash the Turks had, 19,118 D, and no outstanding loans, either. And that's after they had been involved in serial wars with many different powers since the start of the CG. Before checking, I felt it was believable that they would only have 200-300 D in their treasury.

Except for switching sides, I have never played the Turks as a complete CG, but it appears as an A.I. they are programed to hoard cash. After seeing the amount that the Turks had, I switched over to the Poles in the same save and found that the Poles were sitting on over 6,000 D themselves.
