In most of my games i see AI send 6 groups of colonists at once ok no big deal i think but when ai look at destination i see hes having 6 colists at one place is this WAD or bug and if WAD why is this happening
This is unfair but more to the AIs then to us. It is because they don't get the reduced cost and higher percentage chance for success that we do after each one of those individually successful colonization attempts.ville said:In most of my games i see AI send 6 groups of colonists at once ok no big deal i think but when ai look at destination i see hes having 6 colists at one place is this WAD or bug and if WAD why is this happening
idontlikeforms said:The main reason, however, that you see them sending 6 colonists at once is because he ran out of funds and so his colonists piled up. Watch when the AIs send 6 at once, it is almost always in January, when their annual income, which they use for investing, comes in. 6 colonists at once is actually a sign that he isn't spending all his colonists fast enough due to lack of funds.
If it is in January then yes he is sending piles of colonists for the reason I'm saying.ws2_32 said:Most of the time it is when you reload a saved game that the AI sends 6 colonists (if you rely on autosave, that would be in January).
I've noticed this too but it is at a diminished rate, which shows that he is building TPs because he is choosing to build a TP at that particular time, not because he just can't afford a colonial attempt. Otherwise if he can't afford a colonist, he'll then spend on something else besides TPs, like a diplomatic manuever or merchants.ws2_32 said:If the AI is not "asleep" and they cannot afford to make colonies, they build trade posts.
That is correct. He especially does this if he can't colonize. He may then later explore a colonizeable province but has already set his heart on a big project because he couldn't colonize before. His big project is often a conversion attempt, a fortress, or sometimes even a manufactory. Reloading a saved game erases his plans and they start over, often sending out colonists. Wars also make him restart his plans and this is why alot of times immediately after a DOW takes place the AI makes a buttload of troops right of the bat. Sometimes they will simply override the colonizing and go for a big project but the AIs regularly make colonizing a big priority.ws2_32 said:The second reason for letting colonists pile up is the AI is saving money for some goal other than colonizing.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. AIs often spend everything they got in their treasury then pump cash to pay for troop and ship support cost but won't pump cash to pay for investments. They will stretch their income to cover ship and troop support costs though if they have enough treasury for it. I actually discuss all of this in my AI guide in my link. The chapters on AI budgeting and AI colonization cover alot of this.ws2_32 said:The AI doesn't run on zero treasury.
