I'm afraid smartness and skillfully are probably not appropriate words for how the ai ever plays; especially after you have got used to its behaviour.
Swap Sides!
I got so tired of ineffective AI play that I actually swap sides sort them out for a few months then swap again to fix up their mistakes!
AI is not that good but I just cannot do the MP, too difficult to snyc up with someone and I do not have that much scheduled time, which would make this game to be totally awesome.
