Hello. I have some complaints about AI, as we all do. Things that are so easy to fix, but remain disturbing patch after patch:
1) Naval AI. Is just horrible. Paradox promised us to fix it on art of war. I'm playing a campaign with the Knights and Venice is enough retard to get their entire fleet destroyed by a mamluks small one. Is that hard on war time to stack all the ships on a unique fleet? I think not. An easy fix. So in my game Venice should look for Mamluks navy and destroy it because they have a larger and powerful one. Just priorities. But no, they decide that is better to look how mamluks destroy their fleet and armies without doing anything at all, even helping their own fleet supporting with more ships.
There is no naval attrition for AI. So a few steps that can improve naval AI far better than it is nowadays:
- Unite all the ships on the same fleet.
- Look for the enemy stacked fleet.
- Enemy fleet should retreat if the odds are against them. Otherwise, both fleet should engage.
- The larger fleet blockade the province where the enemy fleet is docked. And after, the AI should look if it's possible to capture that province and completely destroy the enemy fleet.
Another example. The AI send trade fleets without escort. It prefers to have 20 galleys docked and wasting naval maintenance instead of protecting the trade fleet. I think is not too hard to assing escort to trade fleets and not leave it undefended.
2) Objectives: It's like a joke. I declare war on Cyprus, where Venice have a claim. But Venice feel comfortable sending stacks of 5-6 to Benghazi getting crushed by an enemy army of 10-15. So I say, attack Cyprus is the way to go. But again, they prefer to be crushed doing stupid movements. But again and again, the AI ignores the war objective. Is that hard to assign AI priorities to attack at all cost the war objective? I think not.
If I assign to one of my fleet "Attach to this unit" Why the AI ignore it? So you are offering us an useless option because one more time the AI ignore it. We don't want a super AI. We just want an AI that don't do stupid things. An AI that respect war objectives. And I think is possible if the devs to their work, that is to give us the AI improvements they promised us in AoW release.
Images can explain it better:
