The few times that i've seen an AI rebellion it gets crushed so fast that i cant even see any trheath. I would like to see a real danger in that kind of rebellions. I imagine the AI rebellion like the replicants in star gate, they overpower easly any kind of civilitaion because its eficiency and intelect gathering resources and reserching technology in addition to its hability to replicate themselves overwhelmingly fast.

The buff that i would give to them is:

-x3 fleet power from the start (they get crushed so rapidly)
-x1.5 resource output (they are not just enslaved synth, they are the next step in AI intelligence and should be more efficient)
-x2 ship build speed, (they are machines building giant blorg cubes, they should be able to ensable it faster that any other empire)
-Make a special type of ship for this empire "the awakener". when a fleet of the AI empire with this kind of ship jumps into a system make all the droids and synth units pops revolt against its creator.
-More events of AI infiltration and sabotage, it need to be a real threath not just an annoyance
-Less Synth/Droid pops needed to trigger this engame crisis (I'm fed up with the unbidden)

Some polish would be nice for it. I'd really love it if the Synths that are not enslaved AND have high opinion of you actually won't join the AI rebellion and stay loyal to you. An ascended empire would surely have to worry about keeping happiness high.

And I suspect that they might start with a Dyson Sphere around that super machine world of theirs.

The core concept of the special ship is to have a focus of corruption that "hack" the minds of the synth and make them revolt against their will. The Dynson sphere sounds a good adition to buff them.
