AI peacing out, and my war ends?

I was playing as Livonian Order and Sweden had started a war for independence against Denmark, which Sweden was losing badly, and I then started a war against Sweden. I occupy some provinces and need some more WS until I'm done. I'm continuously checking the WS between Denmark & Sweden, which are 20 % in Denmark's favor. Stockholm is not occupied/sieged(which are the war goal).

They then peace out which gives Denmark 3 provinces and Sweden will stay in the PU, and my war ends. Shouldn't my war continue and Denmark get called in as war leader? WAD?


Anyway, 5 years later Sweden's eastern half(Finland) are sieged by Finnish patriot rebels, and Denmark are in a Succession war against Austria for the throne of Bavaria. Denmark are losing and Bavaria are occupied by Austria. Perfect opportunity for me to attack a severely weakened Sweden and Denmark, right?

Nope. Austria decides to peace out and give Denmark the throne of Bavaria.

Even though

Austria was winning
Had 40 k army compared to 15 k Danish troops, and 10 k Swedish/Norwegian.
Denmark was in other wars, Austria was not.
Denmark had a hard time reaching Bavaria/Austria
Austria had occupied the wargoal.
It was Ironman so Austria had Luck, Denmark not.(I think)

Denmark then marches with a huge army against me and I decide to quit the game.

hmm this seam more like a bug really, can you post the save game... ho wait the save game you have is after the Austria peace correct?

It's after the Austria peace.

For whatever reason, PUs seem unique in that they end wars mid-stream (most common with Lithuania vs Muscovy falling under Poland early). No idea if that's intentional; it's certainly not consistent with other inherited wars.

Also very visible if anyone beats France in the HYW, which ends all wars France is in.

Ah, I see. I really don't know what the AI is doing though. I restarted and Sweden declared independence again and lost a couple of provinces and stayed in PU. 10 year later they declare for independence again and Denmark lets them, without being involved in any other wars. Which gives me the opportunity to give all Sweden's Finnish cores to Finland. Though I think I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place since there are an alliance between Denmark, Poland-Lithuania & Muscowy. Total army of 125 k, I have 25 k.

Sweden are my vassal and my intentions are to feed them their cores back from Denmark, and then release Norway and do the same. Since I can't war Denmark at the moment, I'm thinking about Northern Germany, but I really don't want to lose Austria as an ally.

Wait for Denmark to go to war with a HRE minor I suppose, then enforce peace. Otherwise cry until the triple alliance ends.

Hmm the only mod I run is Bigger Diplomacy View. I have low on all settings so might be that.

Yeah it worked, even the AI seems to have "Great Power" malus, so Poland and Denmark ended their alliance and I could easily crush Muscovian armies.
This victory felt good, ahead in tech + defending + better shock general and western vs eastern.

And this was the result of the session, the rest of Denmark will be a pain to take since they have taken Ariostocracy(100 % coring cost)

Ultimately I'd like to have the entire Baltic coastline, crush Commonwealth and take a big chunk of northern Germany.
