AI Papal controller should set crusade target

In all of my time playing EU4, I've never once seen the AI set a crusade target; I've only ever seen it set by human players. I'm not sure if this is intentional, but it would be nice to see it happen, especially as the Ottomans start conquering into Europe.

I agree, but really I think Crusades should get an overhaul of somesort, it has to littel flavor I think.

In earlier versions of EU4, crusade declarations were moderately common.

At present, the Pope has to have a -50 or worse opinion of the intended Crusade target for the papal controller to be able to declare a crusade. This... doesn't actually happen very often.

I never saw an AI papal controller calling for a crusade after the release of Art of War, but i frequently saw it before, specifically against the Ottomans.

I have +/- 1200 hours, and I've never seen it, maybe I'm just unlucky. However, that -50 requirement is nonsensical, the only requirement should be that they are not in the Christian group.

There could be scope limitations like many current triggered modifiers have. Possibly things like not being able to use it against primitives or not being able to use it outside of certain super-regions following the region overhaul. I don't think it's an absurd request, -50 requires some doing to get to.

Well, if the Muslims aren't engaged in "some doing" to the point where the Pope is scared, where's the need for a Crusade, eh?

The members of the Fourth Crusade were also excommunicated, and during the early EU4 period, the Catholic and Orthodox Churches made multiple attempts at reconciliation to fight against the Turks.

Sadly not, it's overlooked a lot (or downplayed by many Orthodox as the Catholics shoehorning them into the reconciliation when it was in the best interest of both parties).

I think MEIOU & Taxes has a few stuff pertaining to it - Byzantium even starts off as Catholic, which it technically was at 1444 (the Emperor and Patriarch were both unionists and acknowledged Roman superiority in return for being able to keep most of their doctrinal differences in tact and western help), but I'd like to see some events handle it. It could actually be something good for Orthodox, since they only have five flavor events.

It should probably be weighted to it, but only if there are no Islamic nations in Europe. Having the Ottomans on their doorstep was a bigger issue at the time.

Why? Out of all things that they could overhaul why crusades? Crusade of Varna was the last proper crusade.

Yes, i always felt that crusades in EU4 were a bit out of place and time, i also dont see much need to further elaborate on this feature.
