Couldn't you just edit the event itself via mod to disable the Grey Tempest as a possible outcome? I feel like that would be easier than messing with the save file every game.
Yeah, I will do that for future games. But in this case, I had assumed the grey tempest would come much later... my spawn year was about 2300. So I had spent hours and hours on this game and I wasn't ready to give it up to an early grey goo spawn that wrecked all my hard work. So next time yes.

I am not aganist option to disable L gates early dates at settings but also I countered such problem in my games since I allways build a defensive fleet at my l gate system as I expect such problem(and even if its not tempest they are still important choke points that lead to entire galaxy)

Hello all, I know this has probably already been spoken about. But I wonder if we can have an option where there is no L Cluster. The AI is opening the gates so early. It is so hard to contend with the nanites when you have 5 k fleets only. You spend hours plotting and scheming and warring and then boom... seems such a waste of time.... I don't find it interesting at all where the nanites decimate the entire galaxy and you cannot do anything about it other than watch.
You simply must accept the fact that the galaxy is a dangerous place and so it is foolish to not have 30K fleet power by 2030-2040. You are playing poorly when you are defenseless.

I'm afraid a 30k fleet is still not going to be able to do anything against 6-8 60k+ nanite fleets plus more in the cluster. And yes of course I know the galaxy is dangerous. I'm not looking for easy, I just think ridiculous ruins hard-fought progress over many hours.

Alright, I quickly threw together a pair of mods to address this:
They should be compatible with everything that doesn't effect the specific events I modified.
That's great SirBlackAxe, I will definitely use the "no grey tempest" before mid-year. I have played and beat them before although it's not possible in the early game. I have to try making some mods myself. It looks daunting to me. Are there any good support pages or youtube vids that can help me?

its not about the fact that enemies can or cant spawn
its about the fact that the l cluster literally "semi" corrupts your save once it opens

There's a section on the wiki for the game: https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Modding (also check the links section there for a discord and a reddit), and there's actually a section here on the forums: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/stellaris-user-mods.940/

EDIT: The ideal solution is probably to get the power of the Grey Tempest to scale with the number of years that have passed, and to create a game start option that lets you disable or choose the L-Cluster outcome the same way you can for crisis. That's more complicated to implement though.

Players should not be required to min-max in order to enjoy the game unless they're playing with settings specifically designed to be brutal.

We're talking about an event in the game that the player has little control over. For players who want a more drawn out and relaxed game (like me), having a crisis like the grey tempest spawn with little control over when and where can ruin the game.

Tell that to the Grey Tempest.
You seem to have missed the point of this thread: There is nothing else in the game that requires you to have anything near 30k fleet power by 2230, so the fact that the Grey Tempest does require that level of strength makes it an anomaly that should be changed to be more in-line with the rest of the game.

It's not out of line though. The Khan is even stronger.

The anomaly is that you have no control over the existence of the L-Cluster like you do with marauders and that should change. Please tie the opening into the midgame year and / or let us disable the Cluster at the start.
