I like an idea i saw before where offensive war alliances are a one time deal made seperately for each offensive war (which could I guess benefit from having a long standing defensive alliance). while the current alliance mechanism is changed to only be for defensive wars

Ask to join war would make this one of the best patches ever. Add in a way to soft call to arms without the alliance breaking if refused for offensive wars and we're looking solid.
it is pretty annoying you can't join an ongoing war. sometimes even because the AI failed to call you in due to some chain of alliances shenanigans even though you were their ally. I had a time or two where i was supporting independence, but then the independence war somehow happened without calling me in and I couldn't join. they lost, and then I couldn't support it again because they didn't have the liberty desire anymore

While I might not exactly like not being able to use the PLC as my personal attack hound at a whim, I do agree that a change like this does make sense.

That said, having it be a 10 year -1000 penalty after any sort of offensive war, no matter how small or what the AI gets out of it seems excessively harsh.

Ideally, some sort of smaller stacking malus (-X per offensive CtA) combined with an actual bonus when they actually get something out (+X per Y of power projection and/or +X per Y of development of province) and have both decay over time.

Erm, because this is a voluntary Beta and they can get feedback on it so that the final implementation is better from people having worked out the things that work/don't work with it? Maybe?

I get that it is a voluntary beta but what is the point in getting feedback on a half-implemented feature? Here's what you can potentially work out about a half-implemented feature: it is half-implemented.

Any criticism of it can be immediately answered by, "well this isn't the final implementation."

So AI ally actually gets to do some wars of its own instead of being player's/another ai's wrecking ball 24/7.
does it work in the reverse? I want to make sure that I don't get called into constant offensives with the AI if I can't call them multiple times in a set time period? That is all I ask. Fair is fair!

NVM, already has been answered. This is pretty awesome. I really like this change! also requires you to strategically call your allies into wars you actually need their help in. Hopefully the AI will be smart about that too so they don't waste their allies on a minor and then suicide into a great power forgetting they already called their allies previously.

So i attack mamluks as ottomans for exampled and lets say tunis are my ally. i dont call them in for whatever reason, however if i want to declare war on qq it goes to the alliance menu and shows tunis would join but they'd get called into 'other wars' modifier or whatever even though i only want to call them into the qq war, is that fixed?

It is painfully obvious to anyone who has actually tried writing video games that "This half-implemented feature would be better if you included (property X) to the final implementation" is useful feedback.

As for the cooldown, we already adjust how long a truce lasts based on war outcomes, perhaps just add a similar logic to the cooldown here? Longer war, longer wait. Larger rewards to the AI participant, larger chunk of the cooldown removed or possibly eliminated. Finally, much like forming an alliance with someone who is at war, I didn't check but if it doesn't exist yet the AI should absolutely be willing to just completely forego this malus if it WANTS to join the war in the first place. Brandenburg conquest of Pomerania, I give Poland nothing, Poland refuses to join my subsequent conquest of Magdeburg - that's perfect. If I instead try to reconquer Neumark, though, Poland should ditch their reservations and just join in.
Wow, I like this idea of a moving cooldown a lot! You call your AI ally into a war, if you give them loads of stuff, then they're more than willing to join you next time for another offensive war. If you don't give them anything, then they go "Sorry pal, we still remember last time when we were treated like derp. It's strictly professional between us now (they're only in a defensive alliance)" :p

I didnt see anywhere, but this doesn't affect defensive call to arms right?

Because as it is now is still better than it was.
On a completely unrelated note.

We still get the AE for giving allies vassals in wars, and even worse, the peace screen STILL lies about it.

Now you just have to add "multi-nations" peace deals where "not" war leaders can also demand stuff they want depending on how much they helped in the war. So basicly all nations involved in the war could interact on the peace screen.

It would be cool if "peace time" deals would be added to the game where you could buy provinces/colonies from other nations, ask for loans, demand core provinces back and much more. Something like Civilization 5 has where each side would offer something.

The AI already offers to sell the only provinces it has any business selling.

Understand the theory behind this move. If theres a way to shorten the duration its be nice, assisting them more etc. Or time increased if you didn't help it'd be better.

But as of my last few games allies are buggy as hell.
So all this addition seems to me is - a timer on when the next time the AI will to sit in its own territory and do nothing during a war again.

Thought maybe it was the AI allies not getting access and posted in a thread to find out they get the same access. So instead its just bad AI.
Spent multiple wars ferrying/marching troops across in boats/over land to assist France or other countries in games, then when its time to assist me in offence or defense in a war, they just sit there.
Not always, sometimes they might help a little, but mostly it was just sitting there and maybe responding to attacks/troops nearby or in their territory
Most of these are enemies they share a border with/are rivals of or have been in multiple wars with on their own, and in their own previous wars they attacked them.

If it was an enemy it would have issues getting to fair enough, but just how buggy the AI is this new modifier doesn't seem like a big deal.
Gone back to expecting the AI to do nothing when planning a war, or if it is going to do something, expect it to try to support its own enemy its fought multiple times as defender of the faith instead of its ally who defended it previously against that target, multiple times.

On the plus side, it has been good with the extra free time from being shitty with AI last few playthroughs enough to lose the urge to play EU.
A breaks always good.

AI helps me a great deal? have you used "attach to unit" or set objectives for them? most of the times they take a little while to come up with their move, but they are willing to band together both to siege and to offer assistance in battle (later can be a bit of annoying since AI when sieging and almost done, lift siege because there is a battle which is easily won alone only to prolong the siege)
