The Stellaris forum could do with a thread similar to SteelVolt's
"Great Official AI Thread" in the Hearts of Iron section, where he proposes the following format for AI "bugs"/misbehaviour reports;
For my money, it seems like a lot of AI problems in Banks stem from the AI not having been sufficiently adjusted to the sweeping changes to fundamental mechanics, like global food stockpiles.
I was actually confused and was trying to find EXACTLY THAT THREAD in the Stellaris forum. Forgot it was in HoI4, not here.
And yes, we definitely need the AI designer for Stellaris to set up such a thing for this forum, I feel like it could help alot tracking down the AI behavior.
That said, yes, obviously the AI suffers with each new mechanic and each new layer of complexity. That is always the inherent issue with adding more content to these type of games. And I'm certain that a significant amount of effort went into the AI to make it as idiotic as it currently is (please take this as benevolent amusement, not as insult).
But AI programming in these kind of context is likely even more difficult then 'simply' programming the most advanced chess computer, and therefore I feel like throwing any kind of 'the AI is too stupid to do X' critique must always be amended by after-thought that it will (hopefully, hah) never reach the level of a human player. Especially not the minmaxing strategic experts that attend Stellaris.
In that context, TlDr: Yep, AI sucks, maybe even more then before 1.5. It will improve over time. I agree that, to improve the speed of it's improvement, a Official AI thread should be made.
