AI not assigning escorts

Was checking the status of some builds of my allies and i took notice they were almost out of transports, when i looked at there convoys they had no escorts assigned though they were available,


another issue i have noticed the spanish merchant marine how does that get divided in the spanish civil war and what happens to the losing sides transports and escorts when the civil war is over

Escorts are assigned only when at war and whne the said convoy was recently attacked.

These countries are at war and are running out of transports, they have escorts but they are not assigned to any convoys,

when the spanish civil war starts how are the convoy transports and escorts divided between nationalist and republicans, also when its over and whoever wins what happens to the loser convoy transports and escorts, most navy ships come back to the winning side same with air units?

On civil war outbreak convoys are split between both countries (not equally as there are some rules, but both get convoys). When one of the sides annexes the other convoys are inherited as all other units.

@Martin: Why are escorts only assigned at war? If there are plenty, what is wrong with assigning escorts? Is it just to reduce ai computation time?

I sink plenty of convoys AND plenty of escorts in my games so I conclude ai does assign them. That doesnt mean however that this is done in a very efficient manner.

I always feel autoconvoy underassigns escorts. There's no cost to assigning escorts afaik so I don't understand why the ai doesn't use the hundred+ escorts I built with one serialx99 build of escorts on the single convoy route.
