AI Norse Invasion!

I've tried to do this but haven't ever seen the AI try doing this. So I was called into ~5 defensive wars from a wrecked Middle Francia (basically the Empire, but France lost) and Weden declared a prepared invasion of Aquitane. I'll update the post when it's over.

In my current game as Pictland, I've had two invasions declared on me by the kings of Danmark. Both mustered over 10 thousand Norsemen, well over the 3 to 4 thousand I could muster. Both times my reaction was "Bring-it-on".

Why? Because I was feudal and they where tribal. So for that reason, plus the support of the rest of the catholic rulers of the isles, the Nordic invaders broke upon our heavy infantry and were pushed back into the seas from whence they came.

The current king is mad and with pox so I would not be surprised if he dies soon. I wonder if his heir and brother, Suni Tostesson of House Skjöldung, will try an succeed where his brother and grandfather both failed.

Well, Sweden was stupid and did not wait for the spawned horde and thus invaded with 2,5 personal men.

I see it regularly. It fails most of the time because the ai either doesn't manage to move troops to the target at all or only very few

I took advantage of them as Ireland a couple times.

The Norse declared one on Pictland and most of Britain went to help. But due to my regional rivalry with Pictland (I started as Irish d_isles in Charlemagne), I initially didn't go in. Instead I used the war to expand into Wales by claimant conquests, and only once I had Deheubarth did I join the war by going on the offensive in Danmark.

The second time, a count in Denmark invaded Lothian after I had conquered most of Britain. I used a claimant to conquer Wessex after the King of Wessex and Hwicce was captured (which was an interesting conquest considering the claimant was an Italian from the Republic of Venice!), then declared a holy war on the Norse and landed a Norse Catholic with a claim to a county on the coast of Norway.
