hii
i have the impression that the AI gets a regular boost of money.
in not other way i can ecplain that e.g. austria has every month another 15k to buy my tech, and at the same time can build tons of railroads....

while i dont like that, i would accept it to make the "famous" paradoxian AI an opponent.
what really disturbes me is the colonising.
in 1.02 it mainly costs money (and some basic ress) and the ai countries (esp. britain, but also russia, ottomans, sweden etc.) colonize like hell, while u sit there with ur 10 bucks surplus..... and watch how africa is devided in half a decade.

now i dont want back the gold-cost i heared of, since this wouldnt improve it much. but the way it is now, it is way cheaper just to declare colonial war and get the colonies urself.
(despite the prestige cost, if u r not in the prestige-top5 it isnt usefull for much anyway.)

you can include some rare material in the cost of making claim buildings, a lot of people seem to have had quite a bit of success with precious metal because it doesn't appear at all in the game until after 1845 (IIRC) or so. Paper or glass might work as well and machine parts would definately slow it down a lot.

I get the same feeling. Starting up a game as the UK, formerly played by the AI. I got a major shortage of several good immideatley, was making a net loss and even with taxes at their starting lvl and max tariffs they only made about 24 in net gain. THis while having a treasury of about 400 000£.

AI does not get extra cash nor resources.
However..
at Hard and Very hard difficulty they got a production bonus (don't recall exactly, but if I recall correctly I put it at 25% and 50%)

really?
but where does the AI get all this money from?
when i played prussia i sold autria about 6 techs, for about 13-14k each, in less then a year. it was about 1845. that is probaly as much as my overall profits since the game started.... (if i think again about it, its probably even more.)

and i made the same experience as stingray.
when you load as a previously AI-controlled nation, you are barely able to remain at the position the nation was, not to speak of making profits.....

how is the AI able to build that many railroads, lots of colony buildings, and substain such a large cash reserve ?
the AI might run the economy more efficient (perhaps IT became a tutorial when you programmed it... :p ) but it even if that is true, it surley makes not THAT of a difference?!

on the other hand, if the AI would get cash-insertions why should some nations go bancrupt......
perhaps u forgot to change the economic model for the AI to the 1.02 level??
(again-> :p , i pretty much like 1.02 though.)

Perhaps the AI fluctuates between different tax levels and moves it's pops around factories?
