Hola from Russia comrades.

Here is the issue. Well maybe not issue, but point of interest. I have recently discovered the joy of conquering by buying. Its really quite amazing. Anyways, I've slowly been buying up China in 2 million pound chunks at a time. Now by this point, I have a lot of China, and I must have given China at least 10 million pounds. I have watched them though, fairly closely, and I cannot figure out what they are doing with it.

They aren't building ships or troops nor ae building factories, nor spending it on deals with other countries, nor building railroads. The only possible solution I see is that they are stockpiling it, or maybe spending on education and crime fighting. Now its going to be a heck of awhile, even as China to use up 10 million pounds. Does the AI experience a meltdown of sorts with too much money? Apparently China is sitting on the money. Why aren't they spending it exactly? They have plenty of railroads they could build, plenty of deals they could make, and plenty of factories they could build.

I'm going to load up China next time I play and see how much money they have. If it is possible to "choke" a country with money in this way, then buying provinces is even better. There are no limits.

Chian is ranked number 2 at like 1700 with me at number 1 with about 7000. How do I tell if they are civilized or not? All their troops are irregulars still. Is that a way to tell?

I don't know what they do with all that money, but you can tell if they are civilized or not by looking in the save file for a primitive = yes tag or seeing if you can declare normal war on them (can only declare colonial on unciv). Normally you could just click on them and see, but since they are a GP it will just say Great power either way.

I'm too much of a newbie to much help as far as VIC goes, but considering my familiarity with Pardox's other games, I'm very intrigued by this thread. I would hope the AI would be set up so that a nation with a huge national coffer would use it. I wouldn't expect the AI to use that vast treasury to their greatest interest as a seasoned human player would (and I only wish I new how that "seasoned human player" would use that money. . .I used to read AARs of people conquering almost the entire world with Byzantium on normal, and the best I ever accomplished was most of Europe with Brand/Prussia on Easy!), but I would expect to see some signs of national investment with that amount of money.

Keep us posted on how the game works out. . .I'm very interested!

Ive thought of this also. One time as Austria I just couldnt deal with my good friend Prussia getting smacked around by France. So I cheated and sent liek 6 million dollars to Prussia to help them fend off France... But they didnt do anything with it. They didnt build units or raise their mobilization or build railroads or forts, no colonization. Since I cant figure out how to go into a different nation that has its flag on the top of the list instead of inside it... You can do that with China. Start a game as China inside your save and see whats up.

Easy way to check the money they've got stockpiled -- see how much you can ask for in a deal. Even if they wouldn't give it to you, you can ask for up to however much they have stashed away. I have noticed some AI countries which have absolutely friggin' enormous stashes of cash (China, Britain, France with millions upon millions...). I would really appreciate it if they would sink some of that money into building fabric factories so I could have some #@!$%!$ clothes factories.

Either open your save and move your computer name to a new country, or just go to multiplayer and change the name of your comp. When you go back to the SP screen you will be able to pick any of the flags at the top.

Poor AI resource use

I feel superior to the AI in vanilla 1.02 as I always have better railroads & factory allocation than the top powers even if I am medium sized country. I am now playing my first gave with the UMP mod as Nederlands and find myself in my historical position - in about the middle of the pack - in terms of research/infrastructure (with high prestige and near bottom military). It is a real (and realistic) challenge.

In other words, X is not just tootin' his own horn, the UMP has material AI improvements. I hope they will be in 1.03, but that's another thread . . .

I look forward to playing this new mod as i have noticed that the AI will pool HUNGE ammounts of manoey and jsut let it sit there. It seems to get even worse during war. As the US, I went to war with the UK to gain territory. After about 1.5 years of war (UK didn't want to sign peace) they finally did and BAMN! They put up 6! new trading posts. Thats at least 900,000 stockpiled in 1848

Depending on the date, there is not much China can spend money on. Playing as China, I too accumlated a lot of cash simply because I did not have anything to spend it on except milita, which I can raise in a hurry if I needed too and kept a large standing army anyway.

China does not have the prestige to get machine parts from the WM to build factories. Nor does she begin with techs for ships or armies, so it takes awhile for those depending on the tech choices taken.

However, if the right events are taken, China can become powerful and will spend that money, so be careful of the sleeping giant. In one game, playing as Prussia/Germay, China became #1 in prestige around 1880 I think, and was reguarly defeating UK and Russia war after war, taking more and more terriority. Having 500 million or so population of your culture means lots of cash and huge armies.

I'm not too worried about China this game, seeing as I have 1 billion people and China is still uncivilized. It was kind of scary though when they leaped ahead in industry, but seeing as I know have 9 times as many industrial points, I'm not too worried.

Thanks for the multiplayer country choosing tip by the way Darkrenown.

Also, can you just change that primitive tag to equal no and create a civilized country? I haven't played many uncivilized countries yet, but if I can make them civilized maybe I will.

China has went civilized in my current game, and they have twice my score. I'm going to have to invade them to show them who's boss.

Yes, changing it to no should work. I think you can just remove that whole line if it doesn't.
