Has anyone ever experienced an AI province joining the HRE when playing as Austria?

I noticed I could join the Empire when playing as Venice but I held too much land already. It could be that's just not possible for AIs or it could be handeled like in EU III where they wouldn't join as long as the player was the Emperor.

I tried to get Urbino to join, maxing relation and opinion, but nothing happened till 1520. Other targets are hard to come by however, unless you can somehow split up France. Still, it would be nice to have that mechanic to grow the Empire diplomatically.

Well if you annex them they are technically part of the empire... But yeah I agree, that would be a fun way to use all those diplomats. But at the moment i'd rather have the HRE not beat the crap out of each other the minute the game starts.

I just loaded the game as Venice. To even have the chance at getting Venice into HRE I had to get rid of Corfu, Crete and Cyprus (all went to Byzantium). I was then left with like 7 provinces (didn't release Croatia) (counting is hard when you disable terrain drawing).

The button to add Venice to HRE displayed that I needed 200 relations with Emperor. I'm not sure if it depends on number of provinces or is related to their tax (province value when for example as Austria I wanted to take province from Lorrane that they took from Palatinate). If it's the first then even nation like Poland at the start of the game (1444 start) could probably join HRE and turn it into its own playground as Commonwealth.

Just thinking about Commonwealth as the HREmperor makes me droll :O~~~~

Pretty sure you need provinces that are already in the empire to get the option. So if you conquer them, then you probably won't get the required relation you need.

Played as Poland. They are way to big to join.

Even if you release Prussia and Ruthenia? I think that in 1444 Poland start without Chelmno also. Another province gone. If number of provinces isn't a factor then 1444 Poland CAN into HRE.

After some more testing province value is the key >:) no idea how that works but the poorer a nation is the less buttering up to the HRE is needed to join it. Who knows if Poland can into HRE same is possible for Pope, Venice, maybe some French minors bordering Burgundy, Croatia if its independent and maybe even Denmark (with the use of vassal Holstein).

I'm sure you also need to border HRE member state to join.

Yes, joining up with the Empire is very possible when you are playing as a bordering nation. Just hover over the HRE province icon, and it will tell you what you need to do so.

But my question is: Will the AI do it when all those conditions are met? I've yet to see this happen in game.

But at the moment i'd rather have the HRE not beat the crap out of each other the minute the game starts.

Agreed, member states, especially the small ones, are waaay to aggressive towards each other. The last thing you want to see as the Emperor is some nasty bishop on bishop action.

Alright cool, after about 10 mins of searching for that I've got it. But how do I release states with cores on my land? :D

Ferrara is already part of the HRE at the start of the demo. Do you remember what exactly happened to the province, maybe some annexing and releasing, regularly changing ownership or successfull nationalist rebels?

Better than in EU3, where it was impossible to gain Imperial Authority because all the little ducks stayed perfectly in line. Rushing about the place as Austria and freeing states was fun! Busy busy with internal stuff, makes sense.

Ahh, too bad. So still no confirmation.

It's a little too much. I keep getting CBs on OPMs on a monthly basis. If you go after each of them, you're constantly at war with half your Empire, which is a little weird to say the least.
Since you mentioned Imperial Authority, I actually like the changes Paradox made here. Releasing vassals on HRE turf will give you a scaled amount of authority (2-6 afaik) rather than the standart 10. The majority comes from defending the Empire against external threaths ( +25 when victorious) which makes a lot more sense. The -20 hit for religous conversion on the other hand seems a bit much, especially considering the new start date puts you even closer to the reformation.
