AI Japan's Objectives

This is what I'm focusing on mostly right now. I know, I know, the Axis is already conquering the world in 90% of games by 1943 and probably should be put on the back-burner but there are 2 reasons why I'm working hard on Japan atm:

1) In 1.05 the "navy intensive" nations (Japan, UK, and USA) are having big problems doing overseas invasions - by this I mean invasions from scratch where they have zero land force presense in the area they are tring to invade. In 1.05 handsoff games I have run, Japan AI is the only one I've seen that ever does "from scratch invasions" at all - meaning I have actually seen them grab the Dutch East Indies in game. Therefore I'm studying and tweaking the 2 Japan AI files to try and get them to do it consistently. Any breakthroughs should be able to be applied to UK and USA AI files.

2) The "japan_sea.ai" file is not being used to its full potential imo. Instead of an artificial means of making AI japan leave NatChina alone, it should be used as an opportunity for Japan to grab poorly defended areas from UK and Holland and thereby bolster their rubber and oil income. As a side effect it should take pressure off of NatChina.

With that said, here is my desired chain of ai switching:

Game start = "japan.ai"
Japan joins axis = "japan_sea.ai"
Japan has successfully conquered Indonesia and Singapore =
"japan_pearlharbor.ai" :D

In "japan_pearlharbor.ai", Japan will use admiral to position fleets near midway and honolulu, DOW the USA, and try to invade Phillipines, Midway, Honolulu, and maybe Aleutian Islands. Of course this is just dreaming at this point because I'm still struggling to get AI Japan to conduct solid invasions.

Comments welcome... also if anyone has discovered any good ways to make any AI conduct solid amphibious invasions please let us know :D

The Japan AI builds way too many fighters and bombers in the begining of game. This is in 1.04. I assume it's the same in 1.05 so:
Have Japan concentrate more on land units not Torpedo bombers/fighters under Japan.ai

When switching to Japan_sea ai then have them build those types of air units. The tech research should also be better by then. They should de building basic units for Air not pre-war.

Don't forget to look at the marines too! Oh, maybe this is for the pearl harbor ai file.

Japan is actually invading indonesia with up to 20 divisions at once under my new "japan_sea.ai" modifications, across several islands! I shouldn't get too excited, I need to start a new handsoff game to make sure it's not a fluke.

Im starting to play with "UK_rebound.ai" (to try and get UK into Italy) but I'm noticing Italy just blows up any UK transports that cruise by. Big thumbs up on the Italy AI improvements... gonna be challenging to have UK and USA overcome that. (no sarcasm btw... I mean it, good job) :D

No... most of the time Im just editing the 1.05 ai files but some hopeless countries (mainly the USA) I'm using my modded 1.03b files because (I swear to god this is true):

In my modded 1.03b, the USA would successfully invade Italy and sometimes Vichy France to the point of annexation about 1 in 3 games, and the other 2 in 3 games the stupid front ai would pull every single division out of a successfully amphib'ed province, attack a bordering province, and then of course Italy attacks the original province and cuts off the army that just moved from supplies. Annexation generally only happened to a severely weakened Italy... with the new improved Italy AI I frankly don't know if its possible anymore.

In 1.04, the US would simply ignore ALL of its specific invasion points and instead transfer its entire army to the UK as expeditionary forces.

In 1.05 Im still testing to see what is happening, the only thing I can say for sure is... when I apply the successful Japan-Sea ai parameters to the USA_rebound file I have seen the US at least try to invade specific invasion points... which is a great start.

Japan needs to better garrison the pacific islands. I'm just walking over their troops there as Australia.

They should also build sea defensive structures.

The reason for this is that Japan is concentrating on China too much (the 1.05) ai. I REALLY want your japan_sea.ai... :D ;)

This is the tale of a guy who was going out to mod the Japan AI to the best and he came back with nearly nothing.

I was testing and tweaking the last two weak with variable results.

I had some ideas to provocate the Japanese AI to do more landings ,
1.) Enough troops to land on most of the islands
I led him build many infanteryunits
2.) Fewer invasion targets to make it easier for the AI

In the first three testruns it all worked really well. Singapore , Phillipines and the dutch eastindies within a year.

I tweaked more.
But then in the next 6 run there was nothing happening in the maritime sctor

I fall back to my original ( working ?!) files but no more landings .
Somtime Guam but there he can Walk from the Marianes.

Aarrrrrrrrrgghh

Some discoveries , wich may be helpfull

If Japan was at war with Russia ( nearly ever )and had this big front in Burma with over 60 divsions on both sites ( nearly ever ) he will do nothing in
90 %. In one off my best handsoffs with the most landings , he started after the Bitter Peace to do this.

And something strange
Somtimes even if he had enough troops and not that stress at the landfronts he anyway will not land. I had no idea till I closely look at the port of tokyo and found 50 transports there doing nothing !!Are they fishing ?


I manually send them to sea as Japan before I continue my handsoff .

And you had no idea what was happening !!
14 days after the first troops are landing in Batavia

I am now frustrated and discontinued works
