Sometimes FRA does fall apart now, but it's certainly not always doomed. In my current game, in 1473, they have all of France except 3 of Britteny's provinces which ENG own, and a 4 province Auvegne which they are currently stomping in a war. They have also grabbed a couple of German and Dutch provinces. BUR has been gone for a while. I my previous game (Riga :D) they were even bigger, having taken most of Aragon and the Low countries. However, in the game brfore that they fell to bits.

On the plus side, all this volatility means less blobbing. It means the BBB, BWB, BSB (Big Scandinavian Blob), BYB (Russia, Big Yellow Blob), BBeB (Big Beige Blob, Golden Horde never seems to collapse in my IN games, and I don't have HttT), and BRB (Timurid Empire, also doesn't collapse all that often), Bo-YB (Big off-yellow Blob, the Mamluks), and all those other blobs simply don't happen without occasonally being overrun. I also had one IN game as Portugal where BYZ completely reformed and expanded somewhat; with all the ephemerality of empires, that might happen more often, only for the Otts to split off again from BYZ. It looks like so much FUN!!!!!

Yeah but now you have stuff like the BLGB(Big Lime Green Blob) of Dauphine eating all of southern France as well the western coast such that it now borders Brittany!:eek::eek:o:wacko:

In my game as Austria, it's 1426 and France has become my main rival expanding into parts of Northern Italy. It has annexed the majority of her vassals, but Burgundy still exists (although she was forced to release Flanders after an epic four years of war with me). Point is, France seems fine, the OE has taken over the Balkans and beat up on Venice pretty badly.

Just as a general comment though, almost all nations have really high stability. It only takes me a year or two to regain full stability. If anything ought to be nerfed, it's that. I also feel that it might be too easy to form HRE... I haven't done it yet but i should only be a reform or two away from achieving it. We shall see!

At the end of the day, the game is totally engrossing and the AI can be wicked at times!

I think it's not FRA that is overnerfed, but finally the AI that is able to gank up on countries. If you would bring the AI back to IN, I am sure you would see similiar results.
I have seen several rapid-expanding empires implode - and honestly, imo this is okay. ENG broke 3 times from rebels, lost IRE and SCO, but was always back on stage after 25 years.

The current system is great to prevent huge blobs and ensure a lot of independend nations. Honestly, finally it feels a lot more medieval than Vicky-like when it comes to war goals and peace offers.

I must say that more than before I have the feeling of walking in a minefield. Which is good, making me consider my every move. Then again, when one war isn't going too well, I can expect a DOW from just about every of my neighbours. Maybe that's a bit too much...

I find fairly it unrealistic given how every single nation in the game seems to be warmongers. Give the game a few good years and you'll note that more than half of Europe is embroiled in one war or the other.

Sometimes, it does not even make sense why they keep doing it. Wars like 12th Danish Reconquest of Gotland? No Cassus Beli Wars? Tver joining on a Poland-Lithuania Massacre-Fest?

I mean, you see the Papal States declaring war on Urbino and next thing you know, they're at war with 3 or 4 groups of alliances. The 2nd to 4th ones joining in after they saw that the Papacy was under attack by the Austrians. Result? Most nations become OPMs after a major slugfest.

You see France/England/Spain/Russia (Not Simultaneously at least) form then collapse, then form again to inevitably collapse all in the span of 100 years. Now, I might not be an expert in history but I think there's something wrong about that.

Lucky nation tag may be very important here, everyone has gotten used to either playing with random or turning them off, France may need the luck tag in the 1399 scenario.

And how is it unrealistic? Europe was filled of warmongers in that period.
