No, the AI handles pretty much everything. If you read Brother Bean's AAR he mentions the AI Emp had enacted 3 reforms by the time he ended his game.

The thing I noticed the most while playing the demo was the fact that AI has become very, very cunning. It managed to predict not just my actions, but also actions of other AI's that would happen after he started his evil master plan...

I also thought the AI was rather improved just through some things I saw in the demo. When I was invading Norway as the Hansa, Norway used it's smaller army very intelligently, using its terrain very much to its advantage and ensuring I never had the higher ground.

You used to be able to defeat larger powers by tricking their armies into traps or just out-manueuvering them; that may no longer be the case.

Example of the diplomatic AI:

After many years of peace (I played with Castille), Aragon declared a surprise war on me wthout no CB. I wondered why he would do that sinc he would lose, but then other AI's saw that I am at war so I got two more war declarations in less then five days: Ottomans declared a (naval) Jihad on me and England declared a colonial war so that his ally Portugal can attack me even tough the English never intended to pay me a visit (in other words, England gave Portugal an ability to have a war with me and at the same time screwed up my and Portugal's relations just so that he could have a strong ally in Iberia). Nodoubt Aragon foresaw all of this

So I needed to give Aragon a heap of gold and remove some cores in order to avoid three-front war and so without much bloodshed the Aragonies got a lot for no infamy at all. And Portugal got out with only few ducats to pay me as I had no cores on his lands and taking them without cores would result in a lot of infamy for me and since I am a diplomatic player, that is unwished for.

I did notice, though, that the AI seems gleefully oblivious of the CB system when making concessions through peace offers. I've had the AI offer me concessions which were both not what I went to war with them over, and harsh enough that they'd put me over the BB limit...

Couldn't that have been on purpose? Why would your enemy's peace offering not be something that would have a negative effect on you? Why not screw your enemy over when he might not notice it?

There's been reports of this bug in H3T actually, the AI seems to, on occasion, offer peace deals in excess of 200% warscore. Should be stamped out by 4(?).1

I asked this in another thread: is that a base cost of 200% WS (then adjusted for CB), or a real 200% after adjustments?

And actually it's good AI, not a bug, to offer things not covered by the CB: it allows offering the least for the highest WS cost.

Yes. The AI has been improved. I was playing as Holland. I was excommunicated by Austria few years before.

I got an event which gave me CBs on Utrecht, Brabant and Friesland. SO I attacked Friesland which was allied to Brabant. I quickly defeated the Brabantian armies and occupied Breda and Limburg (Brabant province had been conquered by Burgundy earlier). After I pushed back the Frisian armies and was preparing to siege Friesland, Burgundy warned me. I kept on sieging Friesland but Burgundy dowed before I could end up that siege and annex Friesland as well and ask for Limburg and vassalisation from Brabant. I had to run back to Holland, making a peace with Brabant, only vassalizing it and taking Limburg from them (for infamy!) and agree to a white peace with Friesland (Brabant was the leader of their alliance) to defend my border against an incoming force from Burgundy.

I thought I would lose everything. So I hired a few mercs and stationned in Holland while two Burgundian stacks were sieging Zeeland and Limburg. Soon afterwards, Castille and Aragon got into a war with Burgundy's ally, Provence so the second stack sieging Limburg went away. Only one army, twice the size of mine (7K versus 15K) was sieging Zeeland. I stayed put and waited for the Burgundians to cross the Rhine. They finally did and met a fierce resistance in Holland. They were disadvantaged by -1 because of the river crossing and by -2 because of the geography, so my army led by my king defeated the Burgundians (who had their king leading) 2:1. In the history log, this battle was recorded as the definite battle of the war. With this beating, the Burgundians accepted peace - I offered to end the Brabantian vassalization, and to renounce my treaties with my ally, Cologne (who intelligently sit by idly) and my neighbours : Gelderland, Utrecht and my royal marriage with Aragon.

Burgundy spent the next two years fighting Castille and Aragon to a standstill.

Although it's good to hear the AI is capable of the new features, perhaps it'd be better if, say, most of your games, the HRE (presuming you aren't the Emperor) didn't form the, er, HRE nation? Since that was a kinda unrealistic outcome? Resurgant byzantine empires and granadas and pskovs aside and all.
