From as far as I can think of, fellow HOI 1 - 2 - 3 - Aod players have always found this or that flaw in the game engine and the AI. And rightly so.

I think the game can only takes its full depth when you have the chance to play against fellow humans. A AoD/HOI veteran will always outperform the AI.

IMO resources, production, OOB, better AI and the rest are secondary to the versatility of the human mind. For example, how many AARs have we all read when minor or mid-size countries beat up larger ones? Italy deep into Russia, Sweden or Yugoslavia ruling Europe, etc. Or the giant pockets you can easily do against the AI - try to pocket a human player, now. It becomes a real feat of war! The game engine is a sandbox of fun.

This game is a totally different story when you play against a veteran human. I've done it - it's en experience closer to a WW1 game than a WW2 one, closer to trench warfare where every area is a real battle, than the AI pushover we have in solo mode.

Here's my suggestion: go to GameRanger, host a room, wait for one or a few players to join, chat a bit, then load your solo game. Play for a few hours like you normally do - and enjoy some more challenging times!
