AI France PU'ed Castile and pissed off half the Europe.
They were my ally, the only big ally!!! Happily I noticed fast enough the coming war and broke the alliance with them.

AI France PU'ed Castile and pissed off half the Europe.
They were my ally, the only big ally!!! Happily I noticed fast enough the coming war and broke the alliance with them.
On the bright side, they will be completely crippled now, and you shouldn't have much trouble vassalizing any minors that are released, or conquer Provence off of them.

Never happens in my games. Currently I am playing a quiet game as England, & they are rampaging around Europe as usal with no consequences. Mind you it helps that the useless Palitinate is Emperor. I am surprised to see Scotland part of the enemy, as they are nearly always so close friends.
I recently saw Poland force the PU on Hungary and have a massive coalition formed but would not fire until I declared on Poland. Its rare to see now but it is funny when it happens to the AI.
Edit. I take it they contested England getting castile PU? hence why England and Portugal not in a coalition?

A similar situation in my game. I was allied to France and then they broke the alliance because they wanted Alsace. Now work has begun building an anti-French coalition. Alternatively I will wait until Spain doesn't want to help them and France is busy and has shipped over all their armies to the New World to attack.
Oh man. It's a crazy story. They of course lost that war. As a result they had to release Gascony, Champagne, make some subjects free, but kept union over Castile.
But then they rebuilt the army, reconquered Champagne, went into a restoration of union war against Burgundy and won! Then went into the same war against Austria and won again! This time they got an even bigger coalition and would fight half of Europe once again.
Right now the situation looks like this:

So that's a scary France and all, but can we talk about that action in Poland for a minute?

Imagine the HRE thinking it can squash France+Castile. Whatever they do it will be just temporary setback for that blob.

I just focus on Italy for now. Though maybe it's time to remember that Savoy is truly Italian land?
No, no, no. I like having much more contest later on. Without such blobs the mid/late game gets a bit boring.

But seriously, i understand the grooming of AI for late game, but in truth it doesn't make wars more difficult, just more sluggish. A big blob needs several wars to cut down, and you will curse yourself to let them grow so big.

France puppet Spain and fight off multiple coalitions against them? Sounds familiar!
