So I always make a few custom empires to ensure some of the more interesting government or species types make it into the game. I've noticed that in both of the longer games I've played with a fanatical purifier under the control of the AI they don't really seem all that interested in purifying much of anything. I've used the console to take control of them, and noticed their neighbors are usually at average or below, with no real reason for attacking at all. Is this a common thing others have experienced or could it be an issue on my end?

I do play a pretty heavily modded game, with one such mod being changes to AI aggression (supposed to make them far more aggressive actually). Might the issue be there?

I presume paradox wanted to play it safe in case you spawned next to fanatic purifiers for fear of basically immediately putting you into unavoidable conflict or AIs that would either snowball hard as they kicked over everyone else's sand castles or get squashed like Germany and Japan did when they decided that the course of their national destinies involved "fight literally everyone". That being said it's rather disappointing because I was kind of hoping for A.Is who could play the part of the Axis powers in Hearts of Iron; a foe that you need to prepare for a fight with because sooner or later they're going to come for you and you had best be ready. My dreams of kicking space nazis in the gonads need the space nazis to go "maximum hitler" to borrow a term from ye olden Paradox's community.

Exactly! I always love the sort of big bad empire that has to be defeated. Although while I more or less puppeteered my most recent attempt (took control, gave a bunch of minerals, declared war for them, etc.) it was not really all that satisfying since I was basically just setting up my own challenges. I really hope they either make a change to that, or a modder adds in that sort of behavior for that government type. Maybe I'll mess around with it a bit sometime.

That might be case. Ai seem to evaluate based on fleet power soo they would go "maximum hitler" very fast even compared to space ISIS aka fanatical zealots.

I had 8 corvettes for the majority of a game until I started fighting due to maxing tech. The "Fanatical" purifier just watched in fear because somehow I was stronger than them.

the galaxy seems generally less warlike early on. i think theyve shifted it so wars are more a thing later, with border friction.

I will say that the AI will attack, I've had 3 games since the new expansion where i've just lost because of the AI. My friend's very first game was a loss for him... The 2nd game we lost because Unbidden spawned inbetween both our sectors and the "Guardian of the Galaxy" declared war on the other "Guardian of the Galaxy" and ignored the Unbidden.
