Seeing this happen in the last Blorg stream, was wondering how this will work?

Will some sort of penalty apply to a players aggressive actions against a computer player that has run an embassy with the player for a while?

Right, but human players will ignore relations and attack anyone they want, the AI might not.
That may be right but if it improves the relations on the AI side similiar to the player embassy it makes it easier for the player to make peace or sign treaties. So an AI embassy is the hope of the AI that the player will act more friendly. I guess this means that an AI embassy serves the same purpose as a player embassy does.

I think the implicit question is: is there any reason for the human player to care about his/her civilization's opinion of an AI? Besides roleplaying of course.

I think the answer will be yes. EU4 has it (cannot ask for alliance if your people don't like the other country, for example), so I expect it will be in Stellaris too...

So far I would say the answer is no, there doesn't appear to be.

In EU4, if you have a low enough opinion of an AI empire you aren't allowed to take certain actions. I would think that if you have a low enough opinion of an AI empire you might not be allowed to ally with them, for example.

There's no indication of any such mechanic in the Blorg Stream. That doesn't mean it won't be added at some point of course, but they've shown the factors in tooltips of what is needed for an alliance etc. Nowhere is their any mention or listing of your civ's opinion of the AI empire even being a thing.

I think this is a flawed assumption. Some human players will; others will not.
That is what I am saying, if a human wants to attack someone, they will, regardless of relations. If they don't want to attack them, they wont. The AI generally wont attack someone they like and will attack someone they dislike.

I kind of saw this as a "let's be friends" move from the AI. You are told of the embassy, so you can decide if you want to go along with it or not.

I also think the logic is the same as AI to AI embassies, which is to say they are not going to spend time coding "AI to AI send embassy" differently from "AI to Human Player send embassy"

What I am not sure how is how their sending an embassy will impact their willingness to make diplomatic trade deals with you, other than in a "Howdy friend, let's make a deal" kind of way.

But if im a xenophobe, can i strip the embassy aliens naked and put them in a zoo?
Kids can go there and throw rocks at the scum.
And then lower friendship by 100 points as they polluted my holy land with alien scum.

I believe there is a diplomatic insult function.
You can RP that it entailed that if you want.

Not really. It sends an actual insult which you can read, which is much better in my opinion.
Yes. But if someone wants to RP in their own mind that when they insulted the AI and it withdrew it's embassy that what happened along with the message sent to them was:
But if im a xenophobe, can i strip the embassy aliens naked and put them in a zoo?
Kids can go there and throw rocks at the scum.
And then lower friendship by 100 points as they polluted my holy land with alien scum.
Well, let them. It doesn't make a damn bit of difference to you, me or anyone else...
