I am playing my first game in a long time (and likely last before HOI3) and am trying to get AI Japan's puppet Nat. China to do something worthwhile for Japan. I have made some changes to the save game file, redistributed provinces between Japan and China, given China some free resources so they can run all of their factories, etc. I load as China occasionally just to check on their production queues and makes sure their industry is running properly; when ever I do this I see that they never start a serial run longer than 2 units.

  • 1. Is there a reason for this?
  • 2. Can I mod anything myself to change this?
  • 3. Is this something the Patch team could look at? (I will link to this post in their thread)

Try setting "max_batch_peace" and "max_batch_war" to 500 or so.

since all ai units automaticly updates while in production i consider it even.

I don't want it even I want a challenge, Japan is going absolutely apeshit, I want a good China as an ally to make it a real challenge when I fight them.

Thanks, that will affect an active game?
Change it in your save-game, in the proper country section (Nat Chi). AFAIK, it represents the maximum length of a serial run (in days) that the AI will set up... currently set to 180, which is just enough for a run of TWO Infantry Divisions. 500 should allow runs of six.

Also AFAIK the AI won't cancel already existing serial runs, so the easiest solution might be to simply save the game when China is released, set up a whole bunch of 99 serial inf/militia runs, save game, load up as whatever nation you play. Look at the way the AI has destroyed your perfectly set up army in the mean time. Despair slightly. Then re-organise it and play on! :)

Anyone have any idea what

max_batch_home_front = 180

is?
Code:
max_batch_peace = 800 # Max production run length in DAYS while at peace
Self-Expanitory
Code:
max_batch_war = 500 # Max production run length in DAYS while at war with no home front
max_batch_home_front = 190 # Max production run length in DAYS while at war with home fronts
IIRC Home_Front means that the enemy actually shares a border with them. It might also require that the border have a land connection to the capital.

New question, same game but somewhat unrelated.

I am playing vanilla Arma with the latest1.3 Beta patch, the AI Japan just kicked everyone's behinds and by July '43 had puppeted Nat China, taken the whole of India, and pushed through far enough to annex Persia and Iraq. In 6-8 month since then they seem to have stopped dead in their tracks. I don't know if they just hit the limit of their allowed expansion or if the Brits finally strapped on a pair and stopped their advance. (joking :D)

  • Is the AI JApan scripted to push into the Middle east and Africa?
  • If not what, if anything, can I change to allow it.

I've noticed that when you activate automated slider management as a player (I hate having to move the sliders constantly as units move around or planes take damage to be effient) that even as a player I tend to get little use from gearing bonuses, because when lots of repairs are needed or a new upgrade is ready, all the IC goes into those and away from production.

What I'd really love to have is an automation function that says "ok prioritize upgrades but don't exceed 50 IC for it" etc., so I can preserve my gearing bonuses.

Until they do that, I've made peace with losing my gearing bonuses. It's worth it not to have to micromanage those sliders.

Anyway, the point is that the AI is likely using a similar automation system, so long gearing bonuses aren't going to be practical for them any more than they are for me.

If you look in the AI folder, you will see a file called ai_file_doc.txt which has all of the ai commands and the instructions/descriptions of them. Just like event commands.txt in the events folder.

I usually play with the "prioritize upgrades" button unchecked, but have the "prioritize reinforcements" and "prioritize production" checked. With that setup IC goes to
1) Consumer Goods Slider
2) Production Slider
3) Reinforcements Slider
4) Extra Consumer Goods (if needed due to dissent / low money)
5) Supplies
6) Upgrades

I tend to use automated sliders exclusively while I'm at war, and I've never had a problem with production demands not being met (when I have prioritise production checked). I find that even with all 3 categories prioritised, there is still an order - namely min CG demands are met (i.e. 0 dissent) then either production or supplies, then reinforcement or supplies, then upgrades or supplies. Supplies only come ahead of something if it is not prioritised.
