I haven't tried it personally but if you set the Diplomacy section to AI control wouldn't that make the AI take care of all those deals for you.
Yes.

This may seem like a bit of an odd question, and I will feel like a complete idiot should the fix be simple, but: How do you assign theater command to the AI? Specifically, the western front as Germany?
You don't really need to be in the Theatre map-mode for anything you've asked. How do I actually get it to do something? I was getting pretty excited about this game, but I feel it draining away fairly quickly since I barely understand anything. After some messing about I clicked that, set it to Blitzkrieg and chose a few objectives. And... nothing. Do I need to activate the AI in any other way? I set AI control of armies to completely off when I began the game, surely that doesn't mean I can't change it?
I'm in the Theater map-mode, and there doesn't seem to be anything there.

Setting the AI to Blitz is the best way to get it to attack but it won't storm the Maginot Line without a properly superior force. Its a fairly smart AI.![]()
In the case of Poland, try assigning several objectives. Use the victory points map-mode and assign each province with VP as on objective. I've found that the AI seems to get more done in when I do this. Perhaps think of 1 objective in the centre of an enemy country like saying at the generals briefing "Take Poland" and walking out. Perhaps think of several objectives like saying "We need to defeat Poland and these are out main objectives".Yes, but presumably it wouldn't have a problem storming Warsaw?![]()
Strange. Which level of HQ are you assigning the objectives to? Possibly to a Corps? Or if something more like an Army or Army Group, do they have enough forces under them to carry out your request? The thing is, I'm not even sure I've turned on the AI. When I started the game I set it to no AI controll. But you'd think that by actually clicking the "objectives" thing and setting it to Blitzkrieging Warsaw, it would realize "hey, that guy changed his mind and wants to use the AI now".
And I've assigned lots of places, but nothing moves, literally. It's extremely frustrating. And I'm a fecking Paradox-fan, I can't imagine how difficult it must be for someone who has never even played a Paradox game before.
This is exactly what I have learned too, having the AI attack multiple strategic targets has it operate MUCH more efficently than say "Take Warsaw, and yeah figure the rest out".In the case of Poland, try assigning several objectives. I'm not sure how exact that information is. It has been my experience that more objectives (not dozens, but several) makes the AI move more than assigning it the capital.
I had troubles with the AI until i worked out i wasnt selecting the top level of command - i set the France Theatre HQ to defence and select all the front line provinces and i set the Poland Theatre HQ to attack the key Polish cities.
I then sat back and watched them carve it up.
What i started to do last game was create a 3rd HQ called "North West HQ" to experiment with the Chain of command - i then stole a few units from both fronts to reinforce it. This helped me alot with understanding how the system works so i recommend it.
One cool thing the AI did in my game which was unexpected:
In the above scenario, since i only allocated objectives to the France Theatre on the Front Line provinces, it moved all the units in its command to that area (obviously). That meant the port city of Kiel (i think its called) was left defenceless.
So after a little while i got a message saying Kiel was captured by the British. Since i had just started creating the North West HQ, i thought i better use this army to take back the city - so i set Kiel as the objective. But before i could move the troops and attack it, the France Theatre AI had already Strategically redeployed some units itself to take back the province without me even specifying.
I thought that was pretty cool.
I can defiantly see the AI is going to be interesting to play with and against in HOI3.
