What about patrolling traderoutes? Does the AI cheat there? Playing as Sweden I owned all of the Lübeck trade nodes coastal provinces. Yet still I see Netherlands steering trade with light ships from it? Unless I have misunderstod the mechanics (Very much possible) you need a naval base (or naval basing rights) to be able to use patrol traderoute in that node.

You can send ships to protect trade if you have a merchant. You can send a merchant, dispatch the ships, and then recall the merchant. That may not be WAD, though.

Ok. Wait, What? William Wallace? Wasn´t he executed ages ago before the timeframe of the game even starts? I get Scotland has an event with support, but is it really Wallace? (I didn´t play Scotland yet).

Since he died centuries before the game starts, it can't be him. It's mainly there to stop England from steamrolling France too early in the game (as they often do). The idea is probably based on William Wallace, though.

I think you forgot to mention that lucky nations never get new rulers less than 4/4/4.

That's not a cheat though. That's just part of the bonuses of being lucky.

One of the lucky nations in my current game has a 2/6/2 ruler...

Yes. I think it’s been established that the bonus is at least +1 and possibly +2 to monarch stats (though not the exact formula, whether it’s just a flat bonus or something else). I don’t think I’ve seen any stat lower than 2, myself.

It's only empirical, but there's a tooltip somewhere stating that lucky nations have better monarchs than everyone else.

That's not empirical, empirical would be if you go through 10 save files and discovered that lucky nations have monarchs statistically better than non lucky nations.

But that's a tooltip. Pretty sure it's only there to give a reason for the lucky bonus that gets listed in the tooltip.

- AI gets +1 free leader pool because it's not nearly as good as a human at planning out when it will need leaders and needs to keep them on hand always.

This and the "Lucky Nations" +1 free leader allow a AI player to have +2 to military score. Perhaps something should be in place to where the AI doesn't get the points for it's final leader slot. +2 "Military Points" is quite high, halfway through the game France has ~12 "Military Points" so this in itself is a 20% bonus.

I think that means that it has more possible advisors to choose from (aka you normally have 3 different advisors you can hire, but with this you have 4 or 5 choices)

See below.

# AI 'cheats' that compensate for flaws in its long-term decision making, removing these may severely cripple the AI
ai_nation = {
diplomats = 1 # ai has to reserve a diplomat for short term action so it gets an extra to put it on equal footing with player
free_leader_pool = 1 # ai can't plan for wars the same way the player can, so needs to keep more leaders on hand in peacetime

I'm not seeing the problem, as historically lucky nations should be 'performing better' militarily, relative to other AI, and presents a challenge to the player.

Is it possible to clear up the lucky nations monarch business Wiz? I've seen people claim LN get no worse than 4/4/4, 3/3/3/, or get +1 or +2 added to their die roll. What is the actual lucky nations monarch bonus?
