Hi! Thanks for Yourvquick response.

The game worked fine for about one week and then the issue occured on 15/09. There were some Windows updates on that day, so I tried to uninstall them- but with no effect.

I attached new save files: one in classic turns mode, but already stuck after hitting End Turn, and one in simultaneous turns mode- where I can't move at all. Maybe this will help determine a problem.

I'm sorry to say but both of these saves I'm able to just continue both on Steam and in our Development builds. Is there any more information you might be able to provide? Otherwise can you try to report it using the in-game Feedback reporter, then we might be able to gain some information from the additional files.

Hi! So: when I started new game with only 2 human players- there is no problem with ending 1st player's turn. When I ended 2nd player's turn - game was stuck again. That means- the problem is not connected with AI players, but some independent units on map.

Trying to solve the issue I've already:

- upated all drivers
- reinstalled game twice- on different discs
- changed graphic , interface and global options
- disabled DLCs

What else can be done?

Alright, got the cavalry to take a look. You can try the following:
  1. Switch to the Open Beta branch in Steam
  2. Open or Create the Game.cfg in Documents\Paradox Interactive\Age of Wonders 4\Config\Game.cfg
  3. Add the line WORKER_THREAD_BIAS=4
  4. Save the file and run the game
If it does not or only partially fixes the issue you can try to increase the number but we don't recommend going over 8, 16 at most.

Hi! I did as written above but unfortunately- it didn't help. There is no difference- if I set 4, 7 or even 14. After hitting End Turn button I get information about unknown ruler's turn. Then it disappears, but End Turn button is still turning and "enemy units moving" communicate stays there forever.

Trying this to see if it fixes my crash during AI issue, but I have no config folder in my AoW 4 folder. I can create the folder, but there's no config file. Do I just create one using notepad or something?

I removed some of the mods I was using and managed to get through a full custom game without crashing, but I tried story realm IV again (I think it's #4 - undead elves) and couldn't get through more than a few turns before the crashes started. I tried another custom game and also started crashing around turn 20 or so.

Also, after selecting the open beta, do I just hit play as usual? Or is there a special way to play in beta mode?

Thanks!

You didn't have to create a config file but Game.cfg, so please make sure you named it that. Did you also make sure that it was no longer a text file after saving but had the .cfg extension?

The root of the issue is that your system isn't strong enough to run the game. While your CPU is recent enough, it's only a Dual-Core and rendering the game most likely takes up all the available bandwidth meaning that the AI turn doesn't get to process. A quad-core system would be the minimum needed to run the game regularly.

I did exactly as You said. File name, its extension- everything was Ok, just didn't work :)

I'm not convinced about CPU's fault. Game worked fine for about 1,5 week - then suddenly realised- it has some higher aspirations? ;)
Did You add some new content lately- that made my CPU "not-enough"?

That's not really how things work. Your CPU is a Dual-Core which has never met the base requirements, the fact that you managed to play the game without waiting long times before is impressive. The last update for the game was 2 weeks ago on the 14th which added AI Optimizations that improved Turn Times.

There's nothing wrong with your game/saves. The AI Turns just take a long time (possible infinite) to get their turns done on your machine. The workaround above was to create more threads to work on/process but that seems to not create enough bandwidth.
