AI air force cheating?

It seems that the AI doesn't play by the same rules as a human, and the cheat is a nasty one. I noticed that my fighters were getting the snot kicked out of them by the AI bombers on a regular basis when they shouldn't. So I pinged in to several battles, and I discovered that I was getting hit with a night modifier of -85 (fair enough), but the AI isn't. This means that bombers can hold of my fighters, and their fighters tear my fighters a new one. Nobody had night leaders, my guys were on scramble orders with radar in the province. One battle my fighters were rated 17% after mods (total 4 squadrons - I've set that as the max single stack), the AI was rated at 112%. Considering the enemy were 4 squadrons of same generation fighters, the results weren't pretty.

Assuming this is a bug, can it please be fixed with some alacrity?

Cheers

I think you can change this in misc.txt but don't take my word for it. Search for the -85(or whatever affects night combat) and throw it out.

I don't think there is any parameter in misc.txt about this. See instead modifiers.csv file in /db/units

My experience is that both player and AI can have night modifier but that when fighters intercept bombers, they are sometimes treated as defenders (-50%), sometimes as attackers (-95% changed by tech to -85%).
Defense occurs when fighters scramble before bombers come in, attack when the bombers are routed and the fighters pursue them.
The problem is increased by night tech giving +50% defense to TAC and STR (thus 0 vs -85% !), while FTR have no night defense bonus, and no night attack bonus on the same scale

As I outlined in my post, the worst was 2 groups of interceptors. Mine on scramble (-85 night), the AI on air superiority (0 night). I cant think of anything that should cause such a mismatch. And btw this was in '39, before many nightfighting tech's had been researched.

In any case, this has caused me to go back to my AOD/Core game. ;)

There is no AI combat cheating, what you are experiencing is likely something due to attackers/defenders.

So with everything otherwise in my favour, a scramble mission puts me at an 80% disadvantage only at night? If it's not cheating, then someone is in Lala land.

I noticed it too but never really bothered to look into it, I just wrote it off as another weird game mechanic. Every time my interceptors/fighters happen to intercept someone at night, they utterly lose to the enemy bombers. Lose as in not just fail to do damage to the bombers, but take extraordinary damage themselves.

The most hilarious thing occurs when I intercept someone during daylight but while the battle is going on night sets in. So during daylight my interceptors are destroying enemy bombers handily, but then the night comes in and suddenly the enemy bombers pull out their secret vampire weapons and totally turn the battle around. Pretty funny/stupid.
