You don't see getting 400 years worth of tech in 107 years as a huge problem?
No, because you can't realistically do it. Also no if the game can justify it. Like I repeated time and again, time as a restriction on technological progress doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The world has seen more technological progress in the past 10 years than its seen in centuries in the past. If the conditions for rapid technological advancement can be created in the game, then why not?

The Ottomans or any republic could afford to have MIL tech 3 points over everybody else this way.
Heck, as it is, the Ottomans are pretty much the first country to get artillery and removing the ahead of time penalty would mean they can get it 10-15 years before the appropriate time anyway, meanwhile, Castille with their awful first King and Heir are struggling to even get their first idea.

Well, sure, but it might take a while before you have to wait 15 years and it might be time enough for him to inherit anyway. It's safer to make him a general and hope for RNGesus to take him earlier.

Shocking, really, given that the Ottoman Corps of Cannoneers was founded no later than 1389, and that there's an entire district in Istanbul called Tophane (Foundry), based on a complex founded no later than 1481. :p But early cannons were also used in Iberia, I believe.

Agree with the way the general argument is going, however.

You have also missed the point that this game is balanced around multiplayer at which point literally everyone will have to focus MIL and spend as much money as possible to rush ahead in MIL completely ruining any form of strategy in what you do in the game as everyone is forced to play the same way or get stomped.

Atm ahead of time boni are even misleading for new players, who think it's a good thing. It's just not.

It was introduced(same goes for corruption) to counter the habbit of teching mil way beyond dip tech and in a certain way also beyond admin tech.

It just didn't work at all. Maybe it's time to make dip tech at least something useful.
For non colonisers it's just wasted points you can tech up very fast later on to get to the juicy parts for no drawback at all, period.

The whole concept of ahead of time needs either a heavy rework with actual useful boni(which make it worth to "waste" points on it) or just made plain clear that it's more like a you win more kinda thing, with 3 out of 3 3-5 advisers, OR you make Sea battles/dominance acutally a thing.

Sea dominance really only matters for two casus belli and they are trade conflict and trade dispute. I seriously ask if anyone ever went to war with one of these because in my almost 900h I sure as hell didn't (then again, I almost never play with a merchant republic, so there's that).
I think blockade doesn't tick up war score enough and should maybe be increased more

I agree, but I'd say the problem is the game setup that leads to Otto god-kings through to the end of the game, and not the guns. I suppose I'm sort of criticising the technology system. But not enough to change it, and certainly I've no workable ideas of my own.

for the sake of argument I did it as Portugal against Morocco and it funded my early colonisation while costing just fleet maintenance; I sold Ceuta at the start that game... surprisingly I found it worth the effort, even though blobbing is better
