(AHD) Need some guide on manipulating democracy

I had run a Colombia game to 1860s, everything went well, except industrialization. Capitalists simply failed on kick starting at all under liberal's LF or conservative's intervention. They chose fertilizer, cement, and glass, all of which had been already flooded by GB's huge overproduction. No doubt they made no profit and there was little hope of sustaining a good amount of craftsmen workforce for the supposed eventual self-correction. I need state capitalism.

So I restart the game and try to get reactionary into power via election events. With almost non-stop election compaigns, I do manage to cut liberal's percentage of UH seats down to teens. However, conservative gains most from that and reaches as high as 60s, while reactionary stays on 20s. Is that because Colombia's conservative and reactionary parties share many voting issues? Moreover, I notice my provinces have accumulated quite a lot party loyalty to conservative, which may make my further attempts even harder.

So I'm out of option. How to get the party I want?

I was referring to election result (which party gets how many percent of vote).

As for party loyalty NF, I will try it in next game. In this game, though, conservative has achieved loyalty of 3+ as early as 1843, while NF gives only 0.001 per day, so I think it's pretty much a lost course.

Do you have enough coal secured BTW? All those industries except fertilizers need coal to work. No coal, no prestige to get them on the market, failed factories. If steel isn´t very important yet, coal certainly is. Most of the time demand for those goods you mentioned isn´t bad.

And yes reactionaries are impossible to get unless by revolution from my experience. Which is a bad choice as Colombia because you will lose ALL your reforms and not have immigration.

It´s impossible when conservatives and reactionaries issues overlap. Only way to get them as ruling party (which in the end IS what he is talking about) would be by revolution, or lots of events to raise reactionaries which won´t happen.

If the goal is to get a state capitalist party in power, you may have to wait for the socialists to get activated. They usually support state capitalism (or even planned economy, which gives you total control over the industry), and their issues usually don't overlap with the conservatives.

Socialist parties do prefer planned economy. However, without help of capitalists, railways become four-fold expensive, which is not desirable. Maybe I should learn to cope with LF / intervention after all. In the end, though, state capitalism loses much of appeal by 1870s, when overproduction crisis reaches every corner of industry. In my new Peru game, in 1870s my level 1 steam convoy factory, which was most profitable factory in 1860s, quickly devolves into loss of 150+ per day. I feel that without support of extraordinary good income from RGOs, it may be better to postpone industialization till 1880s or 90s, when industrial techs finally catch up.

(1) Use the NF to boost party loyality. Even with 3.0 for the conservative, it will still take less than a decade to turn the tide.
(2) Use election events to boost issues of non-conservative parties. That should diminish support and maybe even cause other parties to win some votes.

Socialist parties do prefer planned economy.

In my experience, socialists usually have state capitalism and communists planned economy, but the Peruvian socialists are indeed PE.
