AHD issues/questions [More Updated]
As I read through the manual of AHD, I realized that China has been dismantled and weakened like in Divine Wind of EU3 (Seems like the devs hate non-European countries that are blessed with potential~), so the first country I took a look at was the new Chinese Empire. However, the country I saw was much different from what I imagined. The smaller new China is less literate than before even though you would expect the population in the core region to be more educated, and it can barely sustain it's much smaller (still massive) army all around China with its pathetic budget. Instead of westernizing through achieving certain researches, double the research point have to be spent on these new worthless reforms that cost twice and may not even unlock any achievement, not to mention the over 1300 pounds of educational costs if you try to raise the literacy by pulling the sliders to the max...
If the intention was to weaken China alone, then I'm willing to accept the $10 out of $20 that is screwed, but why should a small nation like Mysore pay almost the same amount of research point like China for the same worthless reforms? I may not be a veteran of Victoria, but $15 out of the $20 I paid for this game was to see these new features of "uncivilized" state in AHD. Sure, foreign investment (like a socialist country needs it...) and better economy sounds nice, but things ain't intolerable before...
So, what do you fellow Vic2 players think about the new westernization features? (As in 2.1)
(Please don't shame yourself by answering that the new buttons or better cosmetics worth $20)
EDIT: To answer some of your question after reading responses,
1st, worthless refers to these reforms that may and may not bring BASIC tech achievement at the extreme cost of over 6000 research point. (Why would/should "primitive" country spend over 6000[8000 for China]research point to get Post-Napoleon thought[worth 3600 point] and 1 fort together with militancy on population?)
2nd, I posted this thread after reading thoroughly both the manual and tooltips, so no more talking/questioning like "did OP tried AHD at all" please. (I only post informative suggestion/issue after figuring out every bit of the game, and I mod occasionally, so please be serious about the questions I asked.)
3rd, the biggest problem for "primitive" nation to modernize is the educational budget. China in AHD at the beginning can only generate 600 pounds by maxing all the taxes while it's ridiculous education cost 1300 at max (bigger than the education cost of all China back in Vic2), not to mention its military budget of 1200 at maximum. Mysore can only get 4 pound of max tax revenue while its education and military are both 12 at max. Can u imagine how expensive education would be when China absorbs the substate or when Mysore becomes India?
I'm not sure what has changed in AHD that makes education this expensive but what we have now is bunches of unciv states with little money to improve education and little literacy to to fulfill those reforms that cost Tons of research, which is why I started this thread in the first place.
This expansion is like Divine Wind of EU3 where devs hoped to improve the gaming experience of eastern countries but in fact mostly ruined it, and the $20 we paid for only gave us some degree of upgrade in western country experiences, which is certainly not what we hoped/paid for.
Ok, in conclusion, (after reading through all the related threads/posts) the new westernization process needs fixing simply because unciv states have little things to do before they try to westernize for half of the game span.
ADD: A few other weird/unbalanced/unrealistic things in game: (1836 scenario)
1) beifaren of China now has only 4% literacy (10% before AHD) like manchu, which explains the drop in overall literacy in AHD
2) Hawaii has 80% literacy as a primitive nation...
3) Abu Dhabi at 30% literacy, Afghanistan at 15%...
4) and of course the 40% literacy of Japan since vanilla...
Not sure how Paradox decided the data, but the devs probably won't bother to explain/tell us...
