I've been playing CK2 The Old Gods and I'm currently the Duke of Mumu in Ireland. I'm part of the Kingdom of Eire. The succession law for both my Duchy and the Kingdom of Eire is Agnatic Gavelkind.

My titles are split amongst my sons as intended. My confusion sets in when I'm trying to understand the succession for the King of Eire, my liege. He has two sons, but only one of them is set to inherit everything. The other son is getting nothing apparently. I cannot figure out why this is happening. I'd like to think it's not an error and I'm just missing something. Could someone please explain to me how the King of Eire is passing all his titles on to a single son when he has two?

You can see in the images below that the King has 4 titles and one son is heir to all of them. The other is heir to nothing. I appreciate anyone's help on this.

Seems like maybe the kingdom has primogeniture, where you have agnatic gavelkind.

What does it say if you hover over the kingdom's shield?

edit: derp sorry. You previously stated that the kingdom also has agnatic gavelkind. hmmmm
edit2: it also straight up says it there in the first image. sorry.

It's alright JRHaggs, thanks for replying. That's why I'm so confused... I've been trying to figure out how to gain control of Eire but I can't seem to rely on the succession laws to do pass titles correctly.

I think it's because the King only has a single Duchy in his Demesne. Both of his counties are in that Duchy.

If he gets another county outside of him capital duchy, I believe that will go the other kid.

Is that how it works?!

The King does have the Duchy of Mide title and the County of Dubhlinn which resides in it. However, he also has the County of Ulaidh, which I don't believe is part of the Duchy of Mide (it doesn't highlight when I click on the Duchy of Mide crest).

Pretty sure thats not how it would work. Ive had counties in just one duchy and they would still get split up.

Oh maybe it's not how it works. I thought it did, though.

The way that should be splitting is the firstborn gets the kingdom along with your capital of Dublin. The younger child should be getting the other county for sure and most likely the duchy.

Normally gavelkind logic will give your firstborn son your primary title and capital county no matter what. From there though, the rest of your titles go to your other sons. The game will attempt to give you everything in your capital duchy as well as long you have more titles than sons.

With your actual problem, you might want to try the recalculate succession command or reloading your game and see if that helps you any. Other than that, the only other thing that comes to mind is that your other county is a recent conquest and the succession just hasn't recalculated yet. If it isn't that, then it's probably some kind of bug.

Also to make what Bernard said a bit more clear. Lets say I have 3 sons under gavelkind succession, I hold a duchy with 4 counties and then I have 2 counties outside that duchy but no other duchy title or such, and lets also say im a king. Then that duchy + the 4 counties inside + the kingdom title go to my firstborn while the 2 counties outside go to my second and third son. But if I now give away one of these counties to another vassal then 1 of the counties inside my duchy will go to one of my other sons. And if I revoke or conquer some other county then it goes back to being all 4 counties inside the primary duchy to my first son and the other 2 counties to my second son. And if I now create another duchy title, that duchy goes to my second son together with a county and the third son gets the last county.
